Symptoms
Starting motor does not crank
engine.
Engine cranks but does not start.
Engine runs with continuous
misfiring, runs unevenly or runs
erratically.
Grass cutting is ragged or uneven
Loss of power or system will not
operate in either direction.
Engine is overheating

Probable Causes
Control levers are not in neutral position
and fully out.
Park brake not engaged (ON).
Control lever interlock switch is not
adjusted correctly.
Blade Engagement switch is engaged.
Weak or dead battery.
Loose or broken switches
and/or damaged electrical wiring.
Other causes
No fuel in the fuel tanks.
Fuel filter and/or fuel line plugged.

Dull, bent or broken cutting blades.
Deck full of wet sticky grass.
Cutting Blades are not operating at full
engine speed.
Belt over center take-up is loose.
Worn or broken belt.
Deck is not level.
Bypass valve is open.
Bypass assembly is sticking.
Mower is loaded excessively.
Steering hardware is loose or lost.
Bad ground drive belt and/or pump idler
pulley.
Loose, lost or broken belt take-up spring. Reattach or replace belt take-up rod.
Restrictions in air cleaner.
Internal interference or leakage in
transaxle.
Oil level in transaxle is low.
Poor compression.
Steering linkage is bent or needs
adjustment.
Air is trapped in the hydraulic system.
Other causes
Air intake screen or cleaning fins clogged. Clean screen and fins.
Not operating engine at rated speed.

Suggested Remedies
Place control lever in neutral and fully out.
Engage park brake.
Have your dealer re-adjust the interlock switch.
Disengage blade switch.
Recharge or replace.
Repair or replace switches and electrical
wiring.

Replace fuel filter and/or fuel line.

Sharpen or replace cutting blades.
Clean underside of deck.
Increase engine rpms to full speed (3600 rpm)

Tachometer, Part No. 890-909C.
Tension over center take-up.
Replace worn and broken belt

Check air pressure in all 4 tires
Make level adjustments to the deck

Close bypass valve. See "Moving Mower with
Stalled Engine" on page 14.
See your dealer.
Reduce load on mower.
Replace steering hardware.
Replace belt and/or idler pulley Tighten idler
pulley if loose.
Service air cleaner.
See your dealer.
Fill transaxle to the correct level.
See your dealer.

Purge transaxle of air or see your dealer.
