To charge the Glyph plug the included black microUSB cable into the microUSB port on the Glyph and the other end to a USB wall charger or PC. Note that some PCs will take longer to charge the Glyph than a wall charger, and some PCs will not charge the Glyph if the PC is running on its own battery power. Once a good fit and optical setup are established, fine tuning can be done with the static test image (see Image Tuning). Fine tune the ergonomic fit of the Glyph in video mode by putting on the device and iteratively adjusting the nosepad height and headband telescoping until a comfortable medium is found. Figure 6: Ergonomic Adjustments The Glyph comes pre-installed with a neutral nosepad that works in audio mode. Four other nose pads for video mode are also included. Each user will have a different preference for nosepad architecture and precise fit. Take time to try the Glyph on with all of the nosepads to find the one that fits you best. The preinstalled nosepad works for some people as well. To change between them, simply pull the installed nosepad straight down to decouple the magnetic lock. It may help to lower the nosepad slightly so that it extends out of the headband. The nosepad should rest high on the bridge of the nose and the lenses should be very close to your eyes.
  • Page 8 Figure 7: Nosepad Removal Figure 8: Nosepads Once comfortably on your head, optical adjustments are made on the headband. Turn on the Glyph and press the Test Screen button on the right side to bring up the Glyph test screen.

Note that it is necessary to install the neutral nosepad and lens cover before using the Glyph in audio mode. Figure 9: Optical Adjustment Points Adjust the position of each optics in video mode by pushing the oval sliders on the headband above each assembly back and forth until you see a single screen with the logo centered in the middle. Then focus by rotating each lens clockwise or counterclockwise. It may help to close one eye at time to adjust each lens. Start with the left eye and slide until you can see the left corners of the screen.

  • Page 11: Tips For Long-Term Comfort In Video Mode

Tips for Long-Term Comfort in Video Mode In video mode, the Glyph should fit both comfortably and squarely while looking straight forward. Adjust the nosepad height and the Glyph’s position on your ears until an ideal medium is reached. Like a pair of new glasses, the Glyph may initially be uncomfortable but with time the discomfort will fade. The included head strap may also be used for long-term comfort. To use, take the head strap out of the bag and make sure it is facing the right direction. In the correct position, the strap should swivel backward toward the back of the head. Snap the head strap into the Glyph by pushing the ends firmly into the slot on top of each ear can until it clicks. Undo the head strap length adjustment, swivel to the most comfortable position and then pull and secure the strap adjustment. Figure 10: Using the head strap Other tips for long term comfort: Ensure that you are sitting straight up or leaning back in a relaxed position during long term use. • When properly calibrated, ensure that you are looking straight forward and can see the image • sharply from corner to corner. Do not use the Glyph if you are tired, intoxicated, dizzy, nauseous or in a public place. See the • Health and Safety section for further reading.
  • Page 12: Connecting To Media

Connecting to Media To connect to a device to watch video, use the included blue HDMI cable by plugging the small, microHDMI end into the Glyph and the other HDMI end into your playback device. Devices that support HDMI output signals of 720p can be used. Most devices that are designed to be connected to HDTVs and monitors typically will automatically switch output signals from 1080p to 720p depending upon what they are connected to. Please consult your device’s user manual to be sure. Most mobile devices other than PCs will require an adapter. For most of the current iOS devices, an Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter is necessary for connection. For Android smartphones that support HDMI out, an MHL to HDMI or SlimPort to HDMI adapter will be required. Please consult your device’s user manual to be sure, or check the Glyph compatibility chart at avegant.com/set-up-support. Turn on the Glyph and start playing your content. You might find it necessary to fine-tune your fit and optical adjustments during the first few minutes of use. To connect the Glyph in audio mode to use as headphones, turn off the Glyph and plug a 3.5mm audio cable into the 3.5mm audio jack between the power switch and the HDMI port. Make sure to retract the lenses and use the tiny nosepad and lens cover. Volume can be controlled on the playback device or with an optional audio cable with in-line volume controls. Since the Glyph is off in this mode, you can use the Glyph as headphones without having to worry about battery power.
