The SA-4 has four major components. These are the keyboard and display interface, main processor card, reader interface card and network interface cards. The keyboard and display are mounted in the front door of the SA-4 whilst the remaining components are mounted on a removable chassis for easy installation and maintenance.

System Description and Configuration The SA-4 Access Control System is comprised of three major parts, the SA-4 controller, the card reader and the card. The SA-4 controller stores all information concerning users access rights and makes all decisions about both entry of users and control and monitoring of external equipment.
Unpacking Remove the controller from the box and check the following are present:- Two battery leads - one red, one black Four inductive load suppression kits One spare fuse Four mounting brackets and bolts. (IP enclosure version only) Check that all plugable terminal blocks are present and there is no damage to the equipment before you continue with the installation.
Earthing All cabling from the controller should be shielded and bonded to the controllers earth, with the exception of communication cabling which is terminated at the main controller. A terminal on the communications board is provided for the termination of communication cable shield. Note that cables should not be bonded to more than one earth as this can cause problems.
Communications Presently, three types of serial interface are available for controllers, RS485, RS232 and current loop. The RS485 interface is a full duplex, multi-drop topology consisting of two differential pairs, transmit and receive, carried on standard Belden twisted pair cable. The communications cable is daisy chained from the master controller (generally a PC based RS485) to each controller.
