  • Page 10 First attach the motor to the motor plate using four of the bolts provided. The wires should point out over the ‛Feiyu’ name. Next bolt 4 x 30mm support pillars to the inside of one arm (5 pillars for the X4 Pro). Insert the motor plate into the second lowest row of slots on the frame sides and bolt the other side in place.
  • Page 11 Please note that the pillars are made of aluminum. Do not over tighten the bolts, or you may strip the aluminum threads. We recommend applying a little CA (Super Glue) to the motor slots for additio- nal stiffness. Use the thin liquid version (not the thick gel version) and place a small amount on the outside of the joint allowing it to run in.

& s uselage oldering The Figure 3: Solder (red arrows) the 4 arms on to the fuselage plate: Note: the fuselage plate has a side marked “A” and “B”. Ensure side “A” is always facing upwards. At this point you must decide which colour LEDs are going to be in which position on the aircraft.
  • Page 13 Place your soldering iron in the ‛V’ created at the solder point and melt some solder into it, then spread it carefully along to get a solid joint. Caution: Do not overheat the arm contact points! Once you have soldered all four arms in place, connect 3S Lipo balance plug to the socket at the bottom of the fuselage, and the LEDs will light up.
  • Page 14: Programme Escs

rogramme The next job is to install your ESCs, but before you do this, they need to be programmed and calibrated to your transmitter throttle. To do this, you must connect your receiver directly to the ESC, do not connect through the flight controller. You must also connect the ESC to a motor, at this stage it doesn‘t matter which motor wire connects to which.

  • Page 16: Esc Programming - Throttle Calibration

esC p – T rogramming hroTTle alibraTion You must also calibrate all your ESCs to your transmitter throttle. This is necessa- ry as it is important that each motor combination produces as near as possible the same output for a particular throttle setting as all the other motors, keeping them balanced.
  • Page 17 The best solution for powering the system is to use an external BEC* (not supplied), but if you don‘t have one you can use the BECs built in to one of the ESCs. To ensure only a single BEC power source is supplied to the flight controller, you will need to disconnect all the red power leads from the ESCs, except ESC number 1.
  • Page 18: Install Escs And Power Distributor

nsTall s and ower isTribuTor After soldering the 4 arms, install the 4 ESCs by connecting the 3 output wires to the motor wires. At this stage, connect any of the three wires from the ESC to any wire on the motor, don’t worry about the motor rotation direction.
  • Page 19: Install Frame Centre Plate

nsTall rame enTre laTe You can now install the middle frame plate. Take eight M3 x 25mm pil- lars and bolt them to the underside of the lower frame plate, securing with thread lock. Before installation, place a small piece of tape on the underside of the middle frame plate (marked ‛B’) covering the centre hole (for explanation, see ‛Hover Hold’...

  • Page 21: Check Motor Rotation Direction

heCk oTor oTaTion ireCTion Once the DIP switches are set, activate the quad and carefully check that the propeller ro- tation is as shown. Turn on your Tx with the throttle at minimum, and power the flight cont- roller. Open the throttle just enough that the motors begin to turn, and check the direction of rotation of each motor.
  • Page 22 Once motor directions are correctly set, you can install the props. Remember to fit the cor- rect spacer in the underside of the prop hub. Ensure you fit the correct prop to the right mo- tor according to it‘s rotation direction. Props must be tight, but be careful, it is very easy to overtighten them which could cause damage to the prop or the holder.

ilghT heCks and Centre of Gravity: The C of G of the machine must be as near the centre of the airframe as possible. You can adjust it by moving your flight battery to compensate for any inaccuracy. Airframe: Make a final check of the whole airframe before flying for the first time. Check bolts are tight, motors are turning in their correct directions, that you have the right props on the right motors, and that the props are the right way up.
  • Page 25: First Flight

Connections: Once you have tested the machine and are sure everything is set up correctly, we recom- mend taking the time to make sure the plugs between the Rx and the FY-91Q, and the FY-91Q and the ESCs cannot come loose. If any of these connections are lost even for a second, the consequences can be catastrophic! You can use any method you prefer to do this - below you can see we have stretched some suitable tape, like insulating tape around the FY-91Q and the Rx to hold the plugs in tight at all times.
