Installing Firebrick
Install fire brick now.
Meeco furnace cement and fireplace mortar (furnished) is a silicate
product that when fire cured, sets rock hard - as strong as firebrick
itself and withstands 2,000°F. Carefully follow use instructions on
tube.
Step #1: Start by applying a bead of firebrick mortar to the
bottom of a brick. Begin at the bottom of the fireplace. Place a full
brick in the front left corner and end with a half brick on the right
side. Continue to install by placing mortared bricks edge to edge
(no joint) as shown. When you finish the bottom of the firebox,
there will be a small gap between the firebrick and the back wall.
Step #2: Next, install the firebrick in the same manner to the back
wall as shown. Set first course on top of firebrick on floor.
Steps #3 and 4: Install the fire brick on the two remaining sides as
shown. Note, there are two cut firebricks to accommodate the
angle iron support.
Finish: You will
need enough
mortar to install
the trim piece for
the front of the
firebox. DO NOT
use firebrick
mortar to grout
any gaps.
