    ENGLISH PREPARING FOR USE Machine Packaging The original packaging has been designed and constructed to protect the machine during transport. We recommend keeping the packaging material for possible future transport. Machine Installation Remove the drip tray with grill from the packaging. Remove the machine from the packaging.
  • Page 13 ENGLISH Lift the lid and remove the water tank using the handle. Rinse the water tank with fresh water. Fill the water tank with fresh water up to the MAX level and put it back into the machine. Make sure it is fully inserted. Caution: Never fi ll the water tank with warm, hot, sparkling water or any other liquid, as this may cause damage to the water tank and the machine.

    ENGLISH USING THE MACHINE FOR THE FIRST TIME Automatic Rinse/Self-Cleaning Cycle When warm-up has been completed, the machine automatically performs a rinse/self-cleaning cycle of the internal circuits with fresh water. This takes less than a minute. Place a container under the dispensing spout to catch the small amount of water which will be dispensed.

    ENGLISH Manual Rinse Cycle You need to perform a rinse cycle when using the machine for the fi rst time. During this process, the coff ee brewing cycle is activated and fresh water fl ows through the dispensing spout. This takes a few minutes. Place a container under the dispensing spout.

    ENGLISH MEASURING AND PROGRAMMING WATER HARDNESS Measuring water hardness is essential for preserving coff ee fl avour. To measure water hardness, follow the steps below. Immerse the water hardness test strip supplied with the machine in water for 1 second. Note: The test strip can only be used for one single measurement.

    ENGLISH AQUACLEAN WATER FILTER The AquaClean fi lter is designed to reduce limescale build-up inside the machine and to provide fi ltered water in order to preserve the coff ee aroma and fl avour in each cup. By using the series of 8 AquaClean fi lters as indicated in this user manual, you will not need to descale the machine for 2 years or for the next 5000 cups (with 100-ml capacity).

    ENGLISH Activating the AquaClean Filter You can install the AquaClean fi lter when fi rst installing the machine as part of the overall installation procedure. If you did not install the Aqua- Clean fi lter upon fi rst use, you can install it later by accessing the menu as described here below.

    ENGLISH If you do not replace the fi lter, the fi lter icon fl ashes on and off for 1 second when fi lter capacity drops to 0%. If you ignore this warning, the display will not show the fi lter icon anymore. If the fi lter icon is not displayed anymore, you will need to descale the machine before installing a new fi lter.

    The machine allows for certain adjustments so that you can brew the best tasting coff ee possible. Saeco Adapting System Coff ee is a natural product whose characteristics may change according to its origin, blend and roast. The machine is equipped with a self-adjusting system allowing you to use all types of coff ee beans available on the mar- ket (except for caramelized beans).

    Adjusting the Crema and Coff ee Strength (Saeco Brewing System) The Saeco Brewing System (SBS) allows you to control the coff ee crema and fl avour intensity by adjusting the coff ee brewing speed. Turn the knob to ( ) to increase the fl ow rate: coff ee becomes lighter and has less crema.

The machine allows you to set the right quantity of ground coff ee for each CAPPUCCINO product.

    ENGLISH Brewing Espresso, Coff ee and Long Coff ee Using Pre-Ground Coff ee This function allows you to use pre-ground and decaff einated coff ee. With the pre-ground coff ee function you can only brew one coff ee at a time.

    ENGLISH Refi t the lid and close the milk carafe dispensing spout by turning it counter-clockwise. The milk carafe is now ready for use. Inserting the Milk Carafe Slightly tilt the milk carafe and insert it in the front part of the machine. At this stage, the carafe holes (A) are lower than the couplings (C).

Your machine is continuously exposed to moisture, coff ee and limescale! This chapter describes in detail which activities you need to perform and how often you need to perform them.

Remove the dispensing spout and wash it with water. Clean the pre-ground coff ee compartment with a brush or a dry cloth.

Weekly Cleaning of the Milk Carafe The weekly cleaning is more thorough as any milk residue is removed from the carafe dispensing spout. Before cleaning, remove the carafe from the machine and empty it. Open the milk dispensing spout by turning it clockwise.

    ENGLISH Interruption of the Descaling Cycle Once the descaling cycle has started, it must be completed; do not turn off the machine mid-cycle.
