    Getting Started 1. Remove the battery insulation tape at the back of the unit. 2. Press MODE/ON to turn the unit on. Home Time is displayed. Replacing the Batteries This unit uses two AAA batteries. Replace the batteries when the low bat- tery indicator lights up.

    Changing the Settings From the Setup menu, you can select the message language, which is the lan- guage of the messages and prompts. You can also adjust the screen contrast and the volume of the spoken phrases. 1. Press MODE/ON to turn the unit on. 2.
  • Page 8 5. Press or rotate the RS to scroll to the setting you want. 6. Press ENTER to confirm the settings. Home Time / World Time To set or change Home and World times and dates, the time and date screen must first be displayed.
  • Page 9 2. When the city you want is displayed, press ENTER to set it as the Home City. appears on the screen indicating Home time. Setting the Home Date and Time 1. In the Time/Date screen, press and hold ESC for about 2 seconds, until the year field blinks.
  • Page 10 Changing to 24-hour format When setting the time as indicated above, you can change to the 24-hour format when the hour field is blinking. Continue to rotate the RS until the “A” or “P” disappears from the screen. The 24-hour format is indicated by a blank space following the seconds indicator.
  • Page 11 indicates DST is activated. To activate DST for a world city, use display the time for another city. Then press ESC to toggle DST on or off. This enables or disables DST for that world city only. Viewing World City Time to view the date and time in the list of available cities.

    Press the RS to activate the snooze function. The alarm will sound again in 10 minutes, and will do this for a maxi- mum of three times. Turning the alarm on or off When the alarm screen is displayed, press ENTER to turn the alarm on or off. Changing the alarm sound The daily alarm has three different alarm sounds.

  • Page 17 Finding a Corresponding Phrase When a word is included in one or more phrases, the symbol is displayed at the bottom of the screen. 1. Press ENTER to display the phrase in the lookup language. 2. Press ENTER again to display the translation.

Press ENTER or press the RS to select the category you want. You see either a list of sub-categories or the first phrase for that category.
  • Page 20 To hear the phrase spoken, press TALK. The language displayed is the language spoken. 9. Press ESC to return to the previous phrase menu. Press MODE/ON to go directly to the Phrase language selection screen. Selecting Optional Words Some phrases have optional words that can be selected.
  • Page 21 Using the User Memory You may want to use some words and phrases over and over again. These can be saved in user memory in order to access them quickly. Saving a Word or Phrase 1. Find the word or phrase you want to save.

    Deleting a Word or Phrase 1. Scroll through your user memory to find the word or phrase you want to delete. 2. Press and hold ESC for about three seconds. "Delete?" appears on the screen. 3. Press ENTER to confirm the deletion, or ESC to cancel the deletion.
