    1 Unpack the machine in a warm, dry area. 2 Cut the protective film with a knife; do not break it and consequently scratch or damage the finish. 3 Clean the outside of the Roby. Remove any and all residual packaging and dust. Disposal of Packing Material Dispose of all packing material at a local facility.

    3 Once the steering bar is locked (Figure 11/a), push the red plastic safety protective cover down onto the post release lever (Figure 11/b).     Manual Operation on a Level Floor To move or turn in manual mode: 1 Using the steering bar as a lever, raise the front side of the Roby to utilize the manual auxiliary wheels. 2 Move the Roby towards you and turn in the desired direction. Proceed forward in the desired direction.

  • Page 30: Operation On A Staircase

    Never release your grip on the handle bars while carrying a passenger. The person who uses the stair climber determines the stability of the Roby. To avoid unstable conditions, adhere to the following guidelines at all times. Always place the Roby so that the transported passenger’s shoulders are towards the ascent side.
  • Page 31 1 With the wheelchair properly attached to the stair climber and the green light lit on the steering bar control panel, put pressure on the steering bar (Figure 20/b) such that the nose of the Roby rises (Figure 20/d) and the manual auxiliary wheels activate (Figure 20/c). Move the machine to the edge of the first stair of the flight (Figure 20/a).

  • Page 33 6 If there is another flight of stairs to descend, follow this step. Push and turn the Roby and place it on the edge of the first stair of the next flight (see Figure 22). Press the descend pushbutton until the STOP sticker (on the base of the Roby) is parallel (Figure 21/a) to the edge of the first stair (Figure 21/b).

  • Page 36 5 If this is your final destination, guide the Roby away from the flight of stairs and release the wheelchair as described in the section “Passenger Release”. 6 If there is another flight of stairs to ascend, follow this step. Pull and turn the machine to approach the first stair of the next flight (see Figure 25).

    In the event of an emergency stop on a flight of stairs, NEVER release the steering bar. If you lock the Roby, ensure it is stable before releasing your hand grip from the steering bar. If the stair climber stops during an ascent due to a discharged battery, there may be enough power to descend.
