    ADSL Gateway with 4-Port Switch Chapter 2: Planning your Network The Gateway’s Functions A Gateway is a network device that connects two networks together. In this instance, the Gateway connects your Local Area Network (LAN), or the group of computers in your home or office, to the Internet.

You will have to configure your networked computers to accept the IP addresses that the Gateway assigns them (if applicable), and you will also have to configure the Gateway with setting(s) provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Phase 1 • Phase 1 is used to create a security association (SA), often called the IKE SA. After Phase 1 is completed, Phase 2 is used to create one or more IPSec SAs, which are then used to key IPSec sessions.

Boot - To start a device and cause it to start executing instructions. Bridge - A device that connects two different kinds of local networks, such as a wireless network to a wired Ethernet network.
