Spring preload

Adjusting spring preload
on rear wheel
Adjusting the spring pre-
load while the motorcycle
is being ridden can lead to
accidents.
Set the spring preload only
when the motorcycle is
stationary.c
The spring preload must be
adapted to the load of the
motorcycle. Increase spring
preload when the motorcycle
is heavily loaded and reduce
spring preload accordingly
when the motorcycle is lightly
loaded.
• Place the motorcycle on the
OE
center stand
or side
stand, ensuring that the
ground is firm and level.
To increase spring preload:
• Turn knob 1 in the direction
indicated by the HIGH arrow.
To decrease spring preload:
• Turn knob 1 in the direction
indicated by the LOW arrow.
Basic setting for one-up riding:
• Turn handwheel 1 as far as
possible in direction of arrow
LOW.
• Turn handwheel 15 clicks in
direction of arrow HIGH.
One click corresponds to
a half turn of the hand-
wheel. The range of adjust-
ment comprises 15 turns. The
basic setting refers to opera-
tion with one person with a
weight of 187 lbs (85 kg).c
Your motorcycle's han-
dling will suffer if you do
not match the spring-preload
and damping-characteristic
settings.
Adjust the damping character-
istic to suit spring preload.c
