7. Turn on the computer and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, the
password prompt does not appear. The POP and the SVP have been removed.
How to remove the hard-disk password
Attention: If the HDP has been forgotten and cannot be made available to the
servicer, neither Lenovo nor Lenovo authorized servicers provide any services to
reset the HDP or to recover data from the hard disk drive. The hard disk drive can
be replaced for a scheduled fee.
To remove a HDP that has been forgotten, when the SVP is known, do the
following:
1. Turn on the computer; then, while the initial screen is displayed, press the

button. The Startup Interrupt Menu screen opens.
2. Press F1. The BIOS Setup Utility screen opens.
3. Select Security, using the cursor directional keys to move down the menu.
4. Select Set HDD Password, and press Enter.
5. A pop-up window opens.
6. Type the current HDP in the Enter old hard drive password field. Then leave
the Enter new hard drive password field blank, and press Enter three times.
7. Select Exit, and press Enter.
8. Select Save and Exit, and press Enter. The HDP will have been removed.
