About WAV/AIFF file formats

When the ESX-1 saves/loads data, it references the
following chunks.

WAV files (Import/Export)

The Format chunk, Sample chunk, and Data chunk
are used.
Format chunk ('fmt')
The ESX-1 can handle Wave file formats with the follow-
ing Format chunk settings.
Format: standard PCM format
Channel: 1 (Mono) / 2 (Stereo)
BitsPerSample: 8/16 bit
8-bit data is expanded into 16-bit data by adding zeros
88
to the lower 8 bits.
Sampling Rate: 11,025~96,000 (Hz)
In cases other than 44,100 Hz, the Tune parameter of the
sample will be adjusted during loading so that the play-
back pitch is correct.
Sample chunk ('smpl')
When importing a WAV file created by other hardware
or software, the ESX-1 will import only the Loop data,
and will apply this to its own Loop Start parameter.
When exporting data, the Sample chunk will be written
according to the loop settings specified within the ESX-
1.
When importing
The first loop set in List Of Sample Loops will be loaded.
When Loop data is loaded, the ESX-1's End parameter
will be overwritten by the Loop End specified within the
Sample chunk.
When exporting
If a loop is specified for a sample on the ESX-1, a Sample
chunk will be created when the wave is created.
The following parameters are specified.
Manufacturer: 0x42
Product: 0x71
SamplePeriod: specifies the sampling frequency of the
sample
MIDI Unity Note: 0x3C
Num Sample Loops: 1
List of Sample Loops: one loop, according to the ESX-1's
LoopStart and EndPoint settings
Data chunk ('data')
This is the wave sample data itself.

AIFF files (Import only)

The Common chunk and SoundData chunk are rec-
ognized.
Common chunk ('COMM')
Channel: 1 (Mono) / 2 (Stereo)
BitsPerSample: 8/16 bit
8-bit data is expanded into 16-bit data by adding zeros
to the lower 8 bits.
Sampling Rate: 11,025~96,000 (Hz)
In cases other than 44,100 Hz, the Tune parameter of the
sample will be adjusted during loading so that the play-
back pitch is correct.
SoundData chunk ('SSND')
This is the AIFF sample data itself. Offset and block size
are ignored. (Block-Aligning Sound Data is not sup-
ported.)
