(a) Using a press, romov€ the No.1 hub sleevs assemblv,
1st gear and synchronizer ring.
(b) Remove the needle roller bearing, thrust washer and

(a) Check for wear or damage.
(b) Check the braking effect of the synchronizer ring.
Turn the synchronizer ring in one direction while push-
ing it to the gear cone. Check that th6 ring locks.
lf the braking effsct is insufficient, apply a small
amount of fine lapping compound betwsen th€ syn-
chronizer ring and gear cone.
Lightly rub th6 synchronizer ring and gear cone to-
gsthsr,
NOTICE: Ensuio tho line lapping compound is completely
washed off after rubbing.
(c) Check again the braking effoct of the synchronizer
ring. lf it do€s not lock, replace the synchronizer ring.
(d) Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance betw66n
t h e s y n c h r o n i z e r r i n g b a c k a n d g e a r s p l i n e e n d .
Minimum cleorance:
0,6 mm (0.024 In.)

When replacing either a synchronizer ring or
gear, apply a small amount of fine lapping con-
pound between the synchronizer ring and gear
cone.
Lightly rub the synchronizer ring and g€ar con6
tog6ther.
