CAUTION: All gas piping and connections must be tested
for leaks after the installation is completed. After ensuring
that the gas valve is on, apply a commercial leak detection
solution to all connections and joints. Bubbles forming
show a leak. Correct all leaks at once. DO NOT USE AN
OPEN FLAME FOR LEAK TESTING AND DO NOT
OPERATE ANY APPLIANCE IF A LEAK IS
DETECTED. LEAK TESTING SHOULD BE DONE BY
A QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSON.
WARNING:
Improper
alteration, service or maintenance can cause injury or
property damage. For assistance or additional information,
consult a qualified installer, service agency or the gas
supplier.

INSTALLING THE INSERT INTO A MASONRY OR
LISTED FACTORY BUILT FIREPLACE
Read this section thoroughly before proceeding with the
installation of the insert and the termination. Each installation
is unique therefore planning is important.
1. Remove the fireplace damper, if possible. This will make
the flex installation easier.
2. Determine the length of flex pipe needed and clearly mark
each end of the flex pipe that will be the exhaust.
3. The two flex pipes can be attached to the transition box and
the flex pipes can be routed down the chimney, or the flex
pipes can be routed down the chimney first, attach to the
insert, and finally attached to the transition box.
Note: To attach flex pipes to insert, first attach flex pipe to
collar. Then secure collar to insert. Refer to diagram on PG 9.
4. Remove the glass doors, grates, screens, and other
accessories that may hinder the installation of the insert. If the
insert is installed in a listed factory built fireplace, do not
remove the refractory.
5. Some of DESA's listed factory built fireplaces have control
rods for the air kit that need to be cut as shown for the insert to
fit.
6. Remove the glass door from the insert. This will decrease
the weight of the insert and reduce the risk of damaging the
glass during installation. Be careful of the three screws that
hold the glass door in place.
7. Carefully slide the insert into the fireplace opening.
8. Make sure the insert is leveled. If it is not, put non-
combustible material (ex. metal shims or bricks) under the
insert to level it.

9. With both 3-inch pipes hanging through the chimney, attach
each flex to the appropriate pipe of the insert. The pre-marked
flex pipe is attached over the left pipe (Exhaust). Tighten the
clamp over the flex pipe. Repeat the procedure for the right
pipe (Intake).
10. Attach the glass door with three sheet metal
screws. (Extra screws are taped to the glass).

SURROUND ASSEMBLY

Read instructions thoroughly before proceeding.
1. Lay the three pieces of the surround on carpet or cloth with
the front side facing down. This will prevent scratching the
surface.
2. Attach the left panel to the top panel with four screws. The
holes of the left panel should be on the inside of the surround
assembly. Repeat the procedure for the right panel.
3. For the blower shield, attach it to the assembled surround
with the blower shield's flange over the surround. Secure the
blower shield with three screws. Attach screws from under as
shown in the figure below. (11 screws total).
