Turning on Your NOOK for the First Time

Charge Your NOOK

You must charge your NOOK before you use it for the first time.
Plug your NOOK into a wall outlet using the Power Adapter and 30-pin Cable included with your device.
You can use your NOOK while it charges.
The charging indicator light on the bottom of your device will show orange when your NOOK is charging. When the
light turns green, your NOOK is fully charged.
It takes 3-4 hours to charge your NOOK.

Register Your NOOK

NOTE: To register your NOOK, you must have access to a Wi-Fi network.
To register your NOOK, do this:
1.
Turn on your NOOK if it is not already turned on.
To turn on your NOOK, press the power button along the upper left-hand edge of the bezel and hold the but-
ton down for 2 seconds. When it turns on for the first time, your NOOK displays a welcome message. It also
displays buttons for selecting your language and location.

Tap the button labelled British English.
Your NOOK displays a list of available Wi-Fi networks.

Tap on the name of the Wi-Fi network you want to use. If the network asks you for security information such as
a password, enter it.
If you don't know the network name or password, ask the network's administrator for help.

Once you have connected to a network, tap Continue with Setup.

Tap the underlined words and phrases and use the pop-up menus to select your country and (if your country
spans multiple time zones) your time zone. Tap Next.
Your NOOK registers itself and checks for critical software updates. If there are no updates, it proceeds next
to the Terms of Service screen. You must accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to continue using your
NOOK. To read the Terms and Service and the Privacy Policy, tap on the link provided.
6.
If you agree to the terms, tap the Yes tick box. Optionally, you may tick the box to receive email from partners
about products and services that may be of interest. Then tap the Agree button.
7.
Sign in with your NOOK account. This gives you access to any items in your NOOK Library and allows you to
shop for new books, magazines, newspapers, videos, and apps on your NOOK.
If you already have an account, tap Yes, I have an account.
On the next screen, enter the email address and password associated with your account. Then tap
Submit.
If you do not already have an account, Tap, No I need to create an account.
Tap on the underlined words and phrases and type in the fields to set up your account.
Once you have signed in, you can set up your NOOK Profile. Your NOOK displays a scrollable list of topics such
as Cooking & Food, Travel, and Mystery & Suspense.
