Sample Network Topologies
The connections between the switch and the MDI-X ports on the hubs
are through "crossover" twisted-pair cables. If the hubs have MDI
ports, you can connect to them through "straight-through" cables. The
100 Mbps connection to the server is through category 5 "straight-
through" twisted-pair cable.
The switch, in turn, is connected to a backbone switch using "straight-
through" twisted-pair cable connected to port 8 with the MDI-X/MDI
Select button set to MDI. Now, all the devices on these network
segments can access other network resources that are connected
elsewhere on the network backbone.
