Deskpro 4000N
To load either of the diskettes, complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the Deskpro 4000N.
2. Connect a second computer to the Deskpro 4000N using only a null modem cable connected to
the serial ports on the rear panels of both computers.
3. Turn on the second computer, start Win 95 or Win NT, and insert the proper diskette into the
diskette drive of that computer.
In order to use the second computer's diskette drive as an external diskette drive on the Deskpro
4000N, optional Floppy Drive Server (FDS) software must be installed and running on the
second computer. The software may be downloaded from the Compaq World Wide Web Site
(www.compaq.com).
4. Turn on the Deskpro 4000N.
5. If prompted, enter the Setup password.

Managing the Diagnostics Partition
This option allows you to create, delete, or upgrade the diagnostics software on your computer. This
must be performed from a Diagnostics diskette.
A diagnostics partition is installed on the primary hard drive at the factory. If the partition is to be
created on a newly installed primary hard drive, it must be done before DOS is installed to make it
bootable during POST.
Deskpro 4000S
To perform any diagnostic partition activity complete the following steps:
1. Insert the Compaq Diagnostics diskette into the diskette drive.
2. Reboot the computer (Ctrl+Alt+Del), or turn the power off and then on. At this point, the
Language Screen appears, listing the languages on the diskette.
3. Select the desired language. The Welcome screen then appears. Pressing Ctrl+A at this screen
loads the Advanced Diagnostics.
4. Follow the screen instructions to display the Configuration and Diagnostics menu.
5. Select the Manage Diagnostics Partition from the menu.
The screen will present the Manage Diagnostics Partition menu.
6. Select the desired partition activity (Create, Upgrade, or Delete) and follow the screen prompts to
complete the tasks.
