IDLE SPEED

Refer to the Safety Precautions on page 47.
Idle Speed:
The engine must be at normal operating
t e m p e r a t u r e f o r a c c u r a t e i d l e s p e e d
adjustment. Ten minutes of stop-and-go riding
is sufficient.
Do not attempt to compensate for faults in
other systems by adjusting idle speed. See
your Honda dealer for regularly scheduled
carburetor adjustments.

1. War m u p t h e e n g i n e a n d h o l d t h e
motorcycle upright.
2. Connect a tachometer to the engine.
3. Adjust idle speed with the throttle stop
screw (1).
Idle speed (In neutral):
1,400 ± 100 min
Idle Mixture:
1. Adjust the fuel mixture by turning the pilot
screw (2) clockwise until you hear the
engine miss or decrease in speed, then
counterclockwise until the engine again
misses or decrease in speed. Set the pilot
screw exactly between these two extreme
positions.
From a fully closed position, the correct
setting (between extremes of rich and lean)
will be approximately: 1-5/8
2. If the idle speed changes after adjusting
fuel mixture, readjust the idle speed by
turning the throttle stop screw.
