3. Getting Ready Install and charge the battery New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before you start using your device, it is recommended that you install and charge the battery. To install the battery Make sure your device is turned off. Slide the back cover upward to remove it as shown in the following illustration.

Warning! • Do not remove the battery from the device while you are charging it using the AC or car adapter • As a safety precaution, the battery stops charging when it overheats Turn your device on and off To turn on the power Press and hold the POWER button for a few seconds.
Check the battery power Tap Start > Settings > Systems tab > Power. The Power Settings screen will then open where you can see the current battery power level. When the battery power gets very low, a warning message will be displayed. When you see this, immediately save your data by synchronizing with your PC, or save your data on a secondary storage card, and then turn off your device.

Using the Multifunction Audio Cable The supplied multifunction audio cable enables you to use a stereo headset to listen to music while the device is connected to an AC adapter or the USB sync cable. You can use the USB stereo headset that comes with your device, or connect a headset with either a .5 mm or .5 mm jack.

The Start Menu The Start menu, located at the top left corner of the Today screen, displays a list of programs. You can start a program by scrolling through the programs list and then pressing ENTER, or by tapping a program with the stylus. Open a recently-used program.
HTC Home has four components: Home, Weather, Launcher, and Sound. At the bottom of HTC Home, there is a toolbar that allows you to switch between these components. To switch between the different components of HTC Home, directly touch the desired tab in the toolbar or use the NAVIGATION Control to navigate to the desired tab.
Home Weather For details on using HTC Home, refer to the User Manual. 5. TouchFLO™ TouchFLO™ is a special feature that gives you better touch panel experience on your device. With TouchFLO, you can simply use your finger to scroll and pan the screen.

• Touch and hold on the touch screen and then drag your finger around the screen in any direction. • To continuously pan, drag your finger towards the boundary and hold. The Web page, document, or message that you are viewing then continuously pans.
6. Making a Call Like a standard mobile phone, you can use your device to make, receive, and keep track of phone calls and send text messages (SMS). The Phone screen From the Phone screen, you can access Call History, Speed Dial, and Phone settings.
7. Entering Information When you start a program or select a field that requires text or numbers, you can either use the 0-key QWERTY hardware keyboard or one of the onscreen input methods to enter information. Using the 20-key QWERTY hardware keyboard To reveal the 0-key QWERTY keyboard, slide up the front panel of the device.

You can enter text, numbers, and symbols by using the 0-key QWERTY keyboard. When you select a field that requires entering text or numbers, the phone automatically selects the appropriate input mode. To change the input method, press and hold want to use on the menu.

Using the On-screen Keyboard The onscreen Keyboard is available when text entry is possible. You can enter text by tapping keys on the keyboard that are displayed on the screen. To enter text using the onscreen Keyboard In a program, tap the Input Selector arrow, and tap Keyboard. Enter text by tapping keys on the onscreen Keyboard.
Using Touch Keypad or Touch Keyboard Touch Keypad simulates a wireless phone keypad on the touch screen to allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols just as if you were using a wireless phone keypad. Touch Keyboard simulates a 0-key QWERTY (typewriter) keyboard on the touch screen to allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols similar to the way you would using a QWERTY keyboard.
8. Text Messages Compose and send a text message Tap Start > Messaging > Text Messages. Tap Menu > New. Enter the mobile phone number of one or more recipients, separating them with a semicolon. To access mobile phone numbers from Contacts, tap To. Enter your message.
9. E-mail Windows Mobile’s E-mail Setup Wizard lets you easily set up your personal and work e-mail accounts. You can add an e-mail account from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or other e-mail provider as well as Web-based accounts such as Gmail®, Yahoo!®...

Connect your device to your PC. Windows Mobile Device Center configures itself and then opens. On the license agreement screen, click Accept. On the Windows Mobile Device Center’s Home screen, click Set up your device. Note Choose Connect without setting up your device if you only want to transfer media files, check for updates, and explore your device but not sync Outlook information.
Set up ActiveSync The Getting Started Disc that comes with your device contains Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 or later. Follow the steps below to install and set up ActiveSync on Windows XP or other compatible Windows systems. Note For a list of compatible Windows systems, please go to: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync45.mspx Install ActiveSync Insert the Getting Started Disc into the disc drive on your PC.
When you finish the wizard, ActiveSync synchronizes your device automatically. Notice that Outlook e-mails and other information will appear on your device after synchronization. 11. 15. Customizing Your Device You can customize the look and feel of your device and set the time and date according to the current time zone. Customize the Today screen Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Today. On the Appearance tab, select the desired theme for the background of the Today screen.
16. Securing Your Device You can prevent unauthorized access to any part of your device by specifying a password. Protect your device with a password Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Lock. Select the Prompt if device unused for check box, and in the box to the right, select how long the device must be idle before a password is required.
