Revealing Superb Sensitivity and Selectivity from Analog and Digital Radio
The T - 4555P multi-platform tuner is designed to provide perfectly tuned audio from today's revolutionary radio programming. With a tuner
board slot on the rear—making this tuner capable of future upgrades—you can choose either the C - AMFM or the C - HDXM module. The
latter gives you HD Radio technology transmission and XM
The T - 4555P's build quality is second - to - none with its solid construction, sturdy-looking brushed-aluminum finish with dot - matrix display,
and gold-plated audio outputs. And inside, the T - 4555P hosts a D - type transformer to bring the clarity and finesse you would expect from
digital radio programming. And if you take the option of the C - AMFM module, you're still safe in knowing that the quality of the tuner board
meets the same rigorous standards as those used in Onkyo's flagship network receiver, the TX - NR1000. With the T - 4555P's integration
connectivity options–RS232, 12 V triggers and IR inputs/outputs–the latest in digital radio programming is a worthy addition to the best
home entertainment systems.
HD Radio Transmission Technology For High Quality Radio Programming
HD Radio broadcasting offers dramatically higher quality audio, far more
programming choice and useful new wireless data services brought to you by
local AM and FM radio stations. It's radio without static, hiss, pops or fades.
Today, many radio stations are upgrading their broadcast technology to HD
Radio, while some are already offering new HD2 multicast channels—more
than one program stream across the broadcasting spectrum. In effect, you're
listening to the same stations but with CD - quality reproduction. In addition,
the wireless data feature enables text information—titles, artists, weather or
traffic alert—to be broadcast directly to your T - 4555P's display.
XM Satellite Radio* Brings Vast Commercial - Free Programming
The C - HDXM tuner board makes it possible to access 170 digital channels
of radio programming including 69 commercial - free music channels; over 30
channels of news, sports, talk and entertainment; and over 20 dedicated channels
of XM Instant Traffic & Weather. Simply connect an XM Mini - Tuner and XM Mini -
Tuner Home Dock to the C - HDXM board. The C - HDXM is also compatible with
XM Plug & Play devices. Once you have subscribed to XM Satellite Radio, you
can enter your ID number to activate the full channel line-up. You can select
XM channels by a simple search, by category or by entering the channel number.
*Requires separate purchase of XM Mini - Tuner and Home Dock.
Radio Data System ( RDS ) for Transmitting FM Signals
RDS is a method of transmitting data in FM radio signals. The T - 4555P dis-
plays three types of RDS data. Firstly, when you're tuned to an RDS station
that's
displaying program service ( PS ) information, the station's name will be displayed.
When listening to a station that's broadcasting radio text ( RT ) information, you
can see the information displayed. Finding stations by type ( PTY ) lets you search
for stations in 16 categories from new, sports and education through to classical,
rock and easy listening music. RDS is only available with the C - HDXM module.

Digital and Analog Tuning with Superb Sensitivity
When tuning into FM or AM stations, you can use the tuning mode to search
automatically or manually. The T - 4555P changes the FM frequency in 0.2 MHz
steps and the AM frequency in 10 kHz steps. You also have the option of direct
tuning by pressing the direct tuning button on your remote control and entering
the exact frequency of the station numerically. XM channels can also be directly
tuned in the same way ( and in the manner prescribed in the XM Satellite Radio
explanation ) . When you select an HD Radio station, an HD Radio indicator will
appear on the front display. When you have a HD Radio channel selected, you
can use the remote control to select multicast channels. You can also store up
to 40 FM, AM or XM presets by using the presets button on your remote control.
12 V Trigger, RS232 and IR Connections for System Integration
The T - 4555P uses 12 V triggers if you want to integrate the T - 4555P with
other components in your system. Connecting a mini-plug cable to another
component via the 12 V triggers will enable the T - 4555P to switch on another
component or be switched on by another component. You also have an RS232
connection to accommodate multiroom and control systems such as those
from Niles
or Xantech
. If the T - 4555P is located in another room, stored in

a cabinet or out of the range of a remote controller, you can use IR receivers
and emitters via the T - 4555P's IR connections.
Remote Interactive ( RI ) System Compatible
Onkyo's proprietary RI system integrates, and enables operation of, all compatible
components through a single remote control. The T - 4555P can be connected
an RI - compatible amplifier or receiver for a variety of system functions. For
example, when you switch on the T - 4555P, your amplifier or receiver will also
switch on automatically ( the amplifier's power switch must be ON ) . When you
select a preset or change the band, your amplifier will automatically select the
T - 4555P as the input source. Finally, you can control the T - 4555P through
your amplifier's remote control.
