    DP-CL18 3.2. Clock Generator This printer has one clock oscillator (X1) on the main control board and three clock oscillators (X1, X2, X3) engine control board. The clock oscillator X1 on the main control board generates a 25 MHz clock. This clock supplies a 25 MHz clock for IC23 (Ethernet IC) through IC22 and generates a 25MHz clock for IC9 (Spread Spectrum Clock Generator).
  • Page 15 DP-CL18 The X3 on the engine control board generates a 12.288 MHz clock for IC1 (CPU). This clock is sent from pin 71 of IC1 to pin 294 of IC14 on the engine control board. The X2 on the engine control board generates a 9.641567MHz clock for IC14 (ASIC). The X1 on the engine control board generates a 11.955543 MHz clock for IC14 (ASIC).

    DP-CL18 3.3. Reset Circuit This printer has two reset circuits. One is for the printer main control circuit and the other is for the engine control circuit. 3.3.1. Printer Main Control Reset Circuit This reset circuit is used for resetting IC15 (ASIC1), IC6 (CPU), IC24 (ASIC2), CN9 (Flash ROM ), IC18 - IC20, CN5 (HDD) and IC23 (Ethernet IC).
  • Page 17 DP-CL18 3.3.2. Engine Control Reset Circuit This reset circuit is used for resetting IC1 (CPU), IC14 (ASIC) and IC4 (Flash ROM) on the engine control board. The reset signal is provided by the reset IC3 with the voltage regulator on the engine control board. When +3.3V is supplied, the voltage at point (A) rises from 0V to +3.3V.

    DP-CL18 3.4. Sleep Circuit This circuit is for reducing the power consumption. When the fuser preheating operation, printing operation, control panel key operation, cover opening operation, cassette operation, etc is not performed for longer than the predetermined time, the power save mode signal becomes the low and the printer is in the power save mode.

    DP-CL18 3.5. Engine Control Circuit 3.5.1. CPU (IC1): HD6417034VF20 3.3 V/20 MHz The CPU (HD6417034VF20) has total 112 pins and controls the operation of the printer engine through ASIC IC14. The CPU pin functions are as follows.

LSU Drive Circuit nVIDEO_K, nVIDEO_C, nVIDEO_M, nVIDEO_Y : These signals are the actual raster image data being printed for each color ( nVIDEO : Black, nVIDEO_C : Cyan, nVIDEO_M : Magenta, nVIODE_Y : Yellow ). When the signal nVIDEO_K ( pin 3 of IC13 ) is a low, the laser for black color is turned on.

Accumulator Drive Circuit This circuit consists of 2 solenoid drive circuits (accumulator cam switching solenoid, Mono/Color Changer solenoid), accumulator belt position detection (circuit consist of the accumulator cam home position sensor) and solenoid drive short detection circuit. The accumulator cam switching solenoid, Mono/Color changer solenoid and accumulator cam home position sensor are located on the accumulator tension unit.

Fuser Belt Rotation Detection, Fuser Unit Detection and Fuser Paper Jam Detection Circuits Fuser Unit Detection Circuit This circuit is used for detecting whether the fuser unit is installed or not. When the fuser unit is installed and the fuser cable connector is connected into the fuser relay connector, the signal FSRFUSE voltage (pin 6 of IC6) becomes the ref.
  • Page 32 DP-CL18 3.5.8. Paper Feed Unit Drive Circuit Pickup Solenoid Drive Circuit This circuit consists of the solenoid drive circuit and short detection circuit. When feeding the paper from the standard paper cassette, IC14 outputs the high level signal RSVSOL1 (pin165), turning on the transistor Q28. By the transistor Q28, the transistor Q3 is turned on and +24 V power is supplied to the pickup solenoid.
  • Page 33 DP-CL18 Registration Clutch Drive Circuit The registration clutch is for transmitting the rotation from the BK motor to the registration roller. IC14 outputs the high level REGCLU signal to the transistor Q18 after the registration sensor detects the paper. As a result, the transistor Q18 is turned on and the registration clutch is activated.

Color Registration Sensor Circuit This circuit is for reading the color registration check pattern generated on the accumulator belt by software and IC1 (CPU) receives this information through IC8 and IC14. IC1 (CPU) controls the charge bias, development bias, toner supply bias, first transfer bias (FTR), reverse bias to performing a fine color adjustment.

  • Page 37 DP-CL18 3.5.11. Waste Toner Full Sensor and Waste Toner Cartridge Detection Sensor Circuits The waste toner full sensor is located on the waste toner full sensor board. When the waste toner cartridge is full, the light from the photo diode in the photo coupler Q1510 is shaded by the waste toner and the photo transistor in the photo coupler Q1510 is turned off.

  • Page 40 DP-CL18 3.5.13. Exit Paper Full Sensor Circuit The exit paper full sensor is located on the paper full sensor board. When the paper output tray is full, the paper sensor lever shades the light from the photo diode in the photo transistor Q1512 and the photo transistor is turned off.
  • Page 41 DP-CL18 3.5.14. Paper Size/Cassette Detection Circuit The Cassette detection sensor board located on the bottom printer chassis has 3 switches (SW 1, 2, 3). The switches ( SW1 and SW2 ) for detecting the paper cassette type. The switch SW3 is for detecting whether the cassette is installed or not. The detection signals generated by these 3 switches are sent to IC1 (CPU) through IC14 (ASIC).

Humidity/Temperature Sensor and Print Cartridge Ambient Temperature Sensor Circuits <Humidity/Temperature Sensor Circuit> The temperature/humidity sensor board has the temperature and humidity sensors. The TEMP is an analog signal which informs the information concerning the printer environment temperature to IC1 (CPU). IC1 receives this analog signal, converts it to a digital signal internally and detects the printer environment temperature.

  • Page 45 DP-CL18 3.5.18. Automatic Duplex Switchback Solenoid Drive Circuit This circuit consists of the switchback solenoid drive circuit and short detection circuit. When switching back the paper at the duplex printing mode, IC14 outputs the high level signal RSVSOL1 (pin165), turning on the transistor Q28. By the transistor Q28, the transistor Q3 is turned on and +24 V power is supplied to the pickup solenoid.
  • Page 46 DP-CL18 3.5.19. BK Solenoid Drive Circuit This circuit consists of the BK solenoid drive circuit and short detection circuit. The rotation of BK motor is transmitted to the black print cartridge to drive the black print cartridge through the gears in the main drive unit. The BK solenoid is for cutting off this “BK motor rotation transmitting to black print cartridge”.

BK Motor Drive Circuit This circuit is used for driving the BK motor which supplies the rotation to the black print cartridge, four color toner cartridges, accumulator unit, accumulator tension unit, paper feed unit and fuser unit. The BK motor control signals are explained as follows NITMON : This signal is the control signal for the BK motor.
  • Page 48 DP-CL18 3.5.20.2. CMY Motor Drive Circuit This circuit is used for driving the CMY motor which supplies the rotation to the color print cartridge. The CMY motor control signals are explained as follows : NPIKMON : This signal is the control signal for the CMY motor. To rotate the BK motor, IC14 outputs the low level NPIKMON from pin 193 of IC14 to IC17 ( pin 11 ).

Multi-purpose Tray (MPT) Paper Pickup Motor Drive Circuit This is for controlling the stepping motor (7.5°/step two-phase) which feeds the media from the multi-purpose tray. This circuit mainly consists of ASIC (IC14), IC16, IC10(motor driver IC). There are the 2 drive method (2-phase drive and 1-2 phase drive) for driving the MPT paper pickup motor.

When the sub fuser fan motor is not rotating properly, the detecting signal is a high. This signal is inputted into pin102 of IC14 (ASIC). IC1 (CPU) receives this information through IC14 and displays the call service code “Printer Error 50”...
  • Page 52 DP-CL18 3.5.23. Optional Paper Feeder Interface Circuit 2 optional KX-CLPF1 paper feeders can be added for controlling the optional paper feeder which has a paper feed improving the performance of this printer. This circuit is for motor, pickup solenoid and several sensors.
  • Page 53 DP-CL18 3.5.23.2. Option Paper Feeder Drive Motor Interface Circuit The optional paper feeder has a stepping motor for feeding the paper to the printer. This stepping motor is controlled by IC14 through the motor drive circuit on the optional paper feeder. The signals OPFSMNA1 and OPFSMNB1 are the driving signal for the stepping motor on the first optional paper feeder.

    DP-CL18 3.6. Printer Main Control Circuit 3.6.1. Printer Main Control Board General Description The printer main control board consists of CPU (IC6), ASIC1 (IC15), ASIC2 (IC24), NW control LSI (IC23), main memory (CN3, CN4 : SO-DIMM), program memory (CN9 : ROM) and hard disk (optional HDD).
  • Page 55 DP-CL18 Decompression This block consists of 5 decompression blocks. One is for pre-rendering to print. The remaining 4 blocks is for color compressed bitmap data (cyan, magenta, yellow and black). The compressed data is expanded to the bitmap data by this block.

    DP-CL18 3.6.2. Data Flow This printer has three interfaces for communicating with the host computer : Parallel Interface, Ethernet Interface and USB Interface. The following indicates the data when communicating with the host computer using these interfaces.

    DP-CL18 3.6.3. USB Interface IC15 has the USB interface circuit that is used for receiving ( transferring ) data from ( to ) the host computer. There are USB interface protocol engine, control/status register group, FIFO group, USB transceiver and PLL in the USB interface circuit. The data receiving/transferring speed is full-speed (12Mbps) that conforms the USB2.0 standard.

    DP-CL18 3.6.4. Parallel Interface This interface conforms the IEEE1284 standard and the data transferring to host PC and data receiving from host PC are mainly operated by the ASIC1 (IC15). The data lines (data0 ~ data7) and control lines (nStrobe, nACK, Busy, etc) are connected from the parallel interface connector CN1 on the main control board to the ASIC1 through the IEEE1284 driver IC3.
  • Page 59 DP-CL18 3.6.5. Communication between CPU (IC6), ASIC1 (IC15) and Main Memory (SO-DIMM) The main memory is the SO-DIMM that consists of SDRAM. It is controlled by the main memory interface in ASIC1 (IC15). The followings are performed to the main memory by CPU and ASIC1.

Video Interface between Main Control Board and Engine Control Board The printing data signals NVD0~3 are 4 bit signal for each color (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) and are sent from ASIC1 (IC15) on the main control board to IC14 (ASIC) on the engine control board through connectors CN8. EEPROM Interface The EEPROM (IC7) is for storing the printing count numbers, actual data of consumable, user setting data, etc. The EEPROM accessing request from the CPU (IC6) is sent to the EEPROM IF module through the IC15 internal bus and the EEPROM IF module controls the SO-DIMM internal EEPROM and IC6 (EEPROM).
  • Page 62 DP-CL18 3.6.8. ASIC2(IC24) ASIC2 (IC24) is for accessing the 10/100 Mbps Ethernet controller and hard disk (HDD). The following indicates the main functions. (1) IO Bus Interface This is the bus for connecting between ASIC2 and ASIC1 (IC15). This interface communicates between ASIC2 and ASIC1 using the synchronizing clock transferring method.

  • Page 65 DP-CL18 3.6.10. Flash ROM Interface The flash ROMs have the programing code, font data, etc and are equipped on the ROM board. When the power is turned on, the CPU (IC6) starts to read the data (programing code, font data, etc) in the flash ROM to boot the printer and copies it into the main memory (SO-DIMM).
  • Page 66 DP-CL18 3.6.11. Control Panel Interface On the control panel, the LCD (20 character x 2 lines), 6 LEDs and 6 operation keys are located. CPU controls the operations of LCD, LED through ASIC1 (IC15), IC16, IC17 and detects whether the key is pressed or not through IC16, ASIC1.

  • Page 68 DP-CL18 3.6.12. PCI Bus IC23 (DP83816) that is the 10/100 Mbps Ethernet controller is connected with ASIC2 (IC24) using the PCI bus conforms the 32bit/33 MHz 3.3V PCI Ver2.2 standards. The PCI bus clock is 33 MHz. ASIC2 and DP83816 operates while synchronizing with the clocks (PCICLKIN, PCICLK: 33 MHz) from ASIC2.

This interface performs the network communication using the 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet.
