MAKING ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
12 VOLTS D.C.
A . A pplicable to follow ing m odels: S W 10D , S W 10D E , S W 10D M , and S W 10D E M .
B . R efer to Figure 2 for location o f D .C . junction box on m odels S W 10D and
S W 10D E . R efer to Figure 4 an d 5 for location of D .C . junction box on m odels
S W 10D M and S W 10D E M .
C . The electrical connections m ust be m ade in accordance w ith local codes and
regulations. In the absen c e o f local codes and regulations, refer to the latest
edition of the N ational Electrical C ode AN S I\N FP A N o. 70.
In C anada, the electrical installation should conform w ith C S A standard C S A
C 22.2 No. 148/Z240.6.2 Electrical R equirem ents for R ecreationa l V ehicles and
C S A C 22.1 C anadian E lectrical C ode P art 1 w hen installin g the unit in
recreational vehicles and m obile hom es respectively.
D . M ake the 12 V olt D .C . electrical connections follow ing the w iring diagram
illustrated in Figure 7.
If the power supply is to be from a convertor, w e recom m end that the converter
system be w ired in parallel w ith the battery. This w ill serve tw o purposes:
1.
P rovide a constant voltage supply
2.
Filter any A .C . spikes or volt surges
W e recom m end insulated term inals be used for all electrical connections.

120 VOLTS A.C.

C . The electrical connections m ust be m ade in accordance w ith local codes and

D . C heck rating plate and w iring diagram (Figure 8) before proceeding. Install a
fused safety sw itch or circuit breaker of adequate capacity be tw ee n heater and
electrical pow er source. A ttach the black and white wires from the fused sw itch or
breaker to corresponding colored w ires in heater junction box. A green w ire from
a w ell grounded source m ust be attached to the green nut in the junction box.
C A U TIO N : B efore applying the 120 V A C pow er to the w ater heater junction
box, be sure the sw itch for electric elem ent is in the "O FF" position.
W A R N IN G ! B efore the sw itch for the electric elem ent is turned to the "O N "
position, the w ater heater ta n k m u s t filled w ith w ater.

INSTALLATION OF MOTOR AID HEAT EXCHANGER
A . P lace copper "Y "s in heater as shown in Figure 9.
B . S ecure hoses to "Y "s w ith hose clam ps.
C . A ttach hose from m otor-aid heat exchanger to "Y "s.
D . S ecure hoses to m otor-aid and "Y "s w ith clam ps.
E . C heck all connections for w ater leaks and proper w ater circu lation through
m otor-aid heat exchanger, w ith engine running.
The system should be checked annually for deterioration of heater hose and hose
connections. R eplace as needed.

W A R N IN G ! If the user of this appliance fails to m aintain it in the condition
in w h ich it w as s hipped from the factory or if the appliance is not used
solely for its intended purpose or if appliance is not m aintained in
acco rdance w ith the instructions in this m anu al, then the r is k of a fire
and/or the production of carbon m onoxide exists w hich can cause
personal injury, property dam age or loss of life.
W A R N IN G : For your safety, all repairs should be perform ed by your dealer
or a qualified service person.
A . M ain B urner: D o not allow th e b u rne r to burn w ith a yellow flam e, because
sooting w ill occur. (S ee S afety W arnings).
If the burner flam e is yellow and has an erratic pattern, shut unit dow n and contact
a qualified service agency. D o not continue operating un it w ith im proper burner
flam e. (S ee Figure 10 for correct and incorrect burner flam e appearance.)
