2. Snap the battery into the terminals and place it inside the compart-
ment. Observe the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside the
compartment and on the terminals.
3. Replace the cover.
When BATTERY SENTINEL lights, or the display flashes after AC pow-
er is restored, replace the battery.
Caution: Always remove an old or weak battery. Batteries can leak
chemicals that can destroy electronic parts.
Note: The backup battery operates the clock and alarm for up to eight
hours. To conserve battery power the display does not light when AC
power fails. If the backup battery has enough power when the AC power
is restored, the clock's time will still be accurate.
