Always grip with the palm of the hand. Do not use the tips of fingers for support. Always keep the heater as close to the body as possible. This will minimise the cantilever action. This is possibly a light bulb failure. Remove the light bulb(s) as follows and check it / them in a table lamp that is known to work.
