    14-1248.fm Page 5 Friday, July 2, 1999 12:46 PM PREPARATION CONNECTING POWER Using Batteries To power the SCP-100 with batteries, you need two AA batteries (not supplied). We recommend alkaline batteries, such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-557. Follow these steps to install batteries.

Install the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside the compart- ment, with both batteries over the ribbon.

    SCP-100. They can leak chemicals and corrode or damage electronic circuits. • If you do not plan to power the SCP-100 with batteries for several days, or if you plan to power it using only an AC or DC adapter, remove the batteries to protect the SCP-100 from possible battery leakage.
  • Page 8 AC outlet. Then disconnect the adapter from the AC outlet before disconnecting it from the SCP-100. Follow these steps to power the SCP-100 from a standard AC outlet. 1. Set the adapter’s voltage switch to 3V.

Set the adapter’s voltage switch to 3V. 2. Insert the adapter’s 3.4 mm outer diameter/1.3 mm inner diameter barrel plug into the adapter’s cord with the tip set to negative (–).

We do not recom- mend long-playing cassette tapes, such as C-120s, because they are extremely thin and can easily tan- gle in the playback mechanism.

    PERSONAL SAFETY LIGHT The personal safety light is a bonus packed together the SCP-100. If you are a walker, runner, or a cyclist, carry it so you can be seen thousands of feet away (in clear weather). Clip it on your belt, wear it with the supplied armband, or secure it on your bicycle with the supplied mounting bracket.

    The following suggestions will help you care for the SCP-100 so you can enjoy it for years. • Keep the SCP-100 dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. • Use and store the SCP-100 only in normal tem- perature environments.
  • Page 27 PARTS Dirt, dust, or particles of the tape’s coating can accu- mulate on the tape head and other parts that the tape touches. This can reduce the SCP-100’s perfor- mance. Follow these steps to clean the tape-handling parts after about every 20 hours of tape player operation.
