    ˆ Preparation CONNECTING TO POWER You can power your tape recorder from any of the following sources: • non-rechargeable batteries • standard AC power (with an optional AC adapter) • vehicle battery (using an optional DC adapter) Using Batteries Your recorder requires two AA batteries (not supplied) for power.

    rechargeable batteries of different capacities. 1. Slide off the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow. 2. Place the batteries in the compart- ment and on top of the attached rib- bon, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside. 3.

    4. Plug the other end of the adapter into the power source. CONNECTING AN EARPHONE You can use an optional earphone (not supplied) with a -inch (3.5 mm) plug to listen to a tape in privacy. Your local Ra- dioShack store carries a wide selection of earphones.

    • Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a vol- ume level that does not cause dis- comfort might still damage your hearing. Traffic Safety Do not wear an earphone while operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle.

    ˆ Operation LOADING A MICROCASSETTE TAPE Note: We recommend MC-60 microcas- sette tapes for up to two hours of record- ing/playback time, MC-90 microcassette tapes for up to three hours of recording/playback time. 1. Use a pencil to turn the cassette’s hub and remove any tape slack.

    REWINDING AND FAST-FORWARDING Slide the switch FAST-F/CUE REWIND/REV to rapidly advance a tape, FAST-F/CUE or to to rapidly rewind a REWIND/REV tape. If you slide the switch to or to FAST-F/CUE during playback, you can REWIND/REV hear the tape as it advances or rewinds. When you slide the switch back to the center position, the recorder resumes nor- mal playback.

    ˆ Tape Tips STORING CASSETTE TAPES Do not expose microcassette tapes to high temperatures, high humidity, dust or dirt, or motors, transformers, or other ob- jects with strong magnetic fields. PREVENTING ACCIDENTAL ERASURE Cassette tapes have two erase-protection tabs — one for each side. When a tab is in place, you can record on that side.

    Caution: Removing the erase-protection tabs does not prevent a bulk eraser from erasing a cassette tape. ERASING A CASSETTE TAPE To record over a cassette tape, simply record as usual. The cassette deck records over the previous recording. You can quickly erase both sides of a cas- sette tape using a RadioShack bulk tape eraser.

    ˆ Care Keep the recorder dry; if it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Use and store the re- corder only in normal temperature envi- ronments. Handle the recorder carefully; do not drop it. Keep the recorder away from dust and dirt, and wipe it with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new.
