CAUTION:
The heat sink and microprocessor might be very hot. Turn off the server and wait three to five minutes
to let the server cool before removing the server cover.
Before you begin, print all the related instructions or ensure that you can view the PDF version on another
computer for reference.
Note: Depending on the model, your server might look slightly different from the illustrations in this topic.
To replace the system board, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all
power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server.
2. Remove the server cover. See "Removing the server cover" on page 67.
3. Lay the server on its side for easier operation.
4. Record the component locations, cable connections, and cable routing in the server.
5. Remove all memory modules and PCI cards (including the Ethernet card and RAID card) that are
currently installed. See "Removing a memory module" on page 77, "Removing the Ethernet card" on
page 81, and "Removing the RAID card" on page 84.
6. Remove the heat sink and fan assembly and place it on a clean, flat, and static-protective surface. See
"Replacing the heat sink and fan assembly" on page 134.
7. Remove any other parts and disconnect all cables from the system board.
