Possible causes
The xD-Picture Card or internal memory
is full.
The xD-Picture Card or internal memory
is not formatted.
The xD-Picture Card contact area is
soiled.
The xD-Picture Card is damaged.
The batteries have run out.
The Auto power off function has turned the
camera off.
You took pictures with flash.
You took a close-up shot without selecting
Macro mode.
You photographed scenery with Macro
mode selected.
You are shooting a subject that is not
suited to autofocusing (➝p.29).
Solutions
Insert a new xD-Picture Card or erase
some unnecessary frames.
Format the xD-Picture Card or internal
memory on the camera.
Wipe the xD-Picture Card contact area
with a soft, dry cloth.
Insert a new xD-Picture Card.
Load new or fully charged batteries.
Turn the camera on.
The LCD monitor may darken for charging
flash. Wait a short time.
Select Macro mode.
Cancel Macro mode.
Use AF/AE lock to take the picture.
