Control indicator Z for exhaust emissions
If it illuminates while the engine is running,
it is possible a fault has occurred in the
emission control system. The permitted
emission values may be exceeded. Consult
a workshop immediately.
Control indicator A for engine
electronics
Illuminates for a few seconds when ignition
is switched on.
If the control indicator illuminates when the
engine is running, there is a fault in the
engine electronics. The electronics switch
to the emergency running programme, fuel
consumption may increase and the
driveability of the vehicle may be affected.
In some cases the fault can be eliminated
by switching the engine off and back on
again. If the control indicator illuminates
again when the engine is running, consult a
workshop to have the cause of the fault
eliminated by a workshop.
Catalytic converter, exhaust emissions

Diesel particle filter

Even during normal use, there is still a
possibility that the diesel particle filter may
become partially blocked. The filter is
automatically cleaned under certain
driving conditions, however when control
indicator 8 is illuminated, the diesel
particle filter requires driver-induced

regeneration
Before attempting regeneration of the
diesel particle filter, ensure road
conditions will allow the vehicle to safely
travel at speeds in excess of approx.
40 mph (60 km/h) for up to 20 minutes.

During regeneration, white smoke can be
emitted from the exhaust which is not
detrimental to the vehicle.
