    To use the product safely Please keep these instructions for later reference and read them before attempting any maintenance. If you do not follow these safety instructions, there is a possibility of a fire, electrical shock, burn or suffocation. WARNING ELECTRICAL HAZARDS Failure to follow the warnings in this section may create the risk of an electrical shock.
  • Page 7 This product should be connected to an AC power source within the range indicated on the rating label. DO NOT connect it to a DC power source or inverter. If you are not sure what kind of power source you have, contact a qualified electrician. Always disconnect all cables from the wall outlet before servicing, modifying or installing the equipment.
  • Page 8 FIRE HAZARDS DO NOT use flammable substances, any type of spray, or an organic solvent/liquid that containing alcohol or ammonia to clean the inside or outside of the product.   • Page 33 Printing Methods Envelopes Most envelopes designed for laser printers will be suitable for your machine. However, some envelopes may have feed and print-quality problems because of the way they have been made. A suitable envelope should have edges with straight, well-creased folds and the leading edge should not be thicker than two sheets of paper.

    Driver and Software Software Software for networks (HL-2250DN / HL-2270DW only) For the information about network utility software, see Chapter 1 of the Network User's Guide. ® Remote Printer Console (For Windows only) Remote Printer Console is software to change many of the printer settings independently of your application. For example, you can change the settings for printer margin, sleep mode, character set and so on.

    Control Panel LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) This section refers to four LEDs Toner, Drum, Error, Ready and Go button on the control panel. 1 Toner LED The Toner LED indicates that the Toner is low. 2 Drum LED The Drum LED indicates that the Drum will need to be replaced soon.
  • Page 80 Control Panel LEDs Machine Status SLEEP The machine is in Sleep mode (Power Save mode). The machine acts as though it were turned off. Receiving data or pressing Go wakes up the machine from Sleep mode to Ready mode. DEEP SLEEP The machine is in Deep Sleep mode (reducing more power consumption than Sleep mode).
  • Page 81 Control Panel LEDs Machine Status TONER LOW The toner cartridge will need to be replaced soon. Buy a new toner cartridge and have it ready for when REPLACE TONER is indicated. The Toner LED will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 3 seconds. REPLACE TONER (Stop mode) Replace the toner cartridge with a new one.
  • Page 82 Control Panel LEDs Machine Status DRUM END SOON The drum unit will need to be replaced soon. We recommend that you get a new drum unit to replace the current one. See Replacing the drum unit on page 79. The Drum LED will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 3 seconds. REPLACE DRUM Replace the drum with a new one.

    If this error occurs, turn off the machine's power switch, wait a few seconds, and then turn it on again. Leave the machine for approx.15 minutes with the power on. If the error occurs again, call your dealer or Brother Customer Service.

    Control Panel Go button The Go button has the following functions:  Cancel printing Cancel the current job being printed: While printing press Go for about 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up and then release it. The Ready and Error LEDs will flash as the job is being canceled. Cancel all the received jobs: To delete all jobs, press Go for about 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up and then release it.

    Control Panel Print a test page You can use Go or the printer driver to print a test page. Using the Go button Turn off the machine. Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in. Hold down Go as you turn on the power switch.

    Control Panel Print a Printer Settings page You can print the current settings using the control panel button or printer driver. Using the Go button Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in. Turn on the machine and wait until the machine is in Ready mode.

    Press Go twice. The machine will print a list of the internal fonts. Using the printer driver ® If you are using the Brother’s Windows printer driver, you can print a list of the internal fonts by clicking the Print Fonts button in the Support dialog.

The starter toner cartridge will print approximately 700 pages, the Standard toner cartridges will print approximately 1,200 pages and the High yield toner cartridges will print approximately 2,600 pages.
