Setting
the Deck
Gauge
Wheels
and Roller
Movethe tractoron a firm and levelsurface,preferablypavement, a nd
proceedas follows
1.
Selectthe heightpositionof the cuttingdeck byplacingthedeck
lift leverinthe normallydesiredmowingheightsetting(anyof the
elevendifferentcuttingheightnotcheson the rightfender).
2.
Checkthe gauge wheelsforcontactor excessiveclearancewith
the surfacebelow.Thedeck gauge wheelsshouldhavebetween
l_-inchand Y2-inch clearanceabovethe ground.
If the gauge wheelshaveexcessiveclearanceor contactwith the
surface,adjust as follows:
a.
Raisethe deck lift handleto itshighest setting.
b.
Removethe front gaugewheels by removing the lock nuts
and shoulderscrewswhich securethem to the deck.See
Figure5.
c.
Placethedeck lift leverin thedesiredmowingheightsetting.
d.
Reinsertthe shoulderscrew(witheach gaugewheel)into
the indexhole that leavesapproximately Y2-inch betweenthe
bottomof the wheeland the pavement.
e.
Removethe clevispins and hairpinclips from thedeck roller
bracketson the left and right sidesof the cuttingdeck.See
Figure5.
f.
Positionthe deck rollerbracketsup or downthroughthe slots
on the rear of the deck untildesiredpositionisreached,then
reattachwith the clevispinsand hairpinclips just removed.
Be certain thatthe left roller bracketand the rightroller
bracketare set inthe same position.

of this manualfor moredetailedinstructions regardingvariousdeck
adjustments.

Gasoline
and Oil
The fueltank islocatedunderthe hoodand hasa capacityof two
and three-quartersgallons.Removethefuel cap by turningitcounter-
clockwise.Useonly clean,fresh (no morethan30 days old), unleaded
gasoline.Fillthe tank no higherthanfour inches belowthetop of the
filler neckto allowspacefor fuelexpansion.Donot use E85 gasoline.
Useextremecarewhen handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely
flammableand thevaporsare explosive.Neverfuel the machine
indoors or whilethe engine ishotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipesand othersourcesof ignition.
NOTE: Yourtractorisshippedwith oil inthe engine.However, y ou
MUSTcheckthe oil levelbeforeoperating.See Checkingthe Engine
Oil inthe Serviceand Maintenance sectionof this manual.
Alwayscheckthe engineoil levelbeforeeach useas instructedin the
maintenancesectionof this manual.Add oil as necessary.Failureto
do so may resultin seriousdamageto yourengine
