WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM

The Precor Weight Loss program incorporates the latest findings on fat-burning and
weight loss through exercise. It is based on research at the world-renowned Cooper
Institute for Aerobics Research and it is designed to help you burn the most fat
during a 28-minute workout, while minimizing the risk of discomfort and injury. The
Weight Loss program is similar to the Interval program, but the intervals are set at
four minutes. If you use the touch-sensitive grips on the handrail or the optional
®
POLAR
chest strap, try to keep the rest interval's target heart rate at 55% of "220
minus your age," while the work interval should be set to 70% of "220 minus your
age." Refer to Diagram 18 on page 33. As in the Interval program, once you set the
resistance levels for the first rest and work interval, the EFX automatically repeats
the interval settings throughout the program.
To use the Weight Loss program, follow the steps found in Quick Steps to Working
Out on page 31. When the program prompt appears, choose the Weight Loss
program number. Refer to the program label on the accessory tray.
Important: During your workout, you can change the resistance, but doing so will
cause the effectiveness of the Weight Loss program to vary.
Note: When you complete the 28-minute time limit set for the program, the auto-
matic cool-down period begins.

FITNESS TEST

The five-minute Fitness Test (program number 7) measures the maximum amount of
oxygen the body can use for energy production during exercise. The higher the amount
of oxygen that your body can use enhances your ability to exercise for prolonged
periods of time. The results of the Fitness Test can help you gauge the effectiveness
of your current exercise routine and tailor it to meet your fitness goals.

FITNESS TEST GUIDELINES

Before selecting the Fitness Test, read the following guidelines:
sit and rest for at least five minutes prior to taking the test. This brings your
heart rate to a resting state.
the fitness score is affected by your weight, age and gender. Be sure to include
this data during the setup prompts. (The prompts appear consecutively after
selecting program 7).
you must wear the POLAR
of both handrails throughout the test.
Note: The letters "HR" blink in the heart rate display when your heart rate
signal is being transmitted to the receiver through the hand grips. Similarly, if
you wear the chest strap, a blinking three dashes (- - -) signifies reception. A
number appears that corresponds to your heart rate (pulse) once enough
heartbeats have been processed to determine your actual heart rate. If no
heart rate signal is detected, the display remains blank.
