compressthe washer.
NOTE:Wheninstallinga newsparkplug,tighten 1/2-turnafter the
spark plugseatsto compressthe washer.Whenreinstalling a used
spark plug,tighten 1/8-to 1/4-turn after the sparkplug seatsto
compressthe washer.

CARBURETOR
ADJUSTMENT
Thecarburetoris notuseradjustable.ContactSearsParts& Repairfor
adjustment.
AUGER ASSEMBLIES
Eachof thefouraugerbladespiralassemblies is securedto thespiral
shaftwith a shearpin and bow-tiecotterpin. If theaugershouldstrikea
foreignobjector icejam, thesnowthroweris designedsothat thepins
mayshear.
1.
If augerassemblies do notturn,checkto seeif pinshavesheared.
2.
Replacethe pins if needed.Two replacement s hearpinsand bow-
tie cotterpins havebeen providedwith the snowthrower.Spray
an oil lubricantintoshaftbeforeinsertingnewpinsand securing
with newbow-tiecotterpins.
SHAVE PLATE AND SKID SHOES
The shaveplateand skid shoeson the bottomof the snowthrowerare
subjectto wear.They shouldbe checkedperiodicallyand replaced
whennecessary.
NOTE:Theskid shoeson this machinehavetwo wearedges.When
one sidewears out, theycan be rotated1800 to usethe otheredge.
To ReplaceSkidShoes:
1.
Removethe six carriagebolts and hexnuts that securethe two
skid shoesto the sides of theauger housing.Referto Figure22.

Position the newskid shoesand securewith thecarriageboltsand
hexnuts.Makecertaintheskid shoesareadjustedto be level.
To replaceShave Plate:
1.
Removethe hexnuts and carriageboltsthat securethe shave
plateto the bottomof the housing.
2.
Removethe rear mosthex nutand carriagebolt securingthe back
of each skid shoeto the sidesof the housing.Loosenthe four
remaininghexnuts securingthe skid shoes.
3.
Slidetheshaveplateoutof theoff-setslotatthebottomof thehous-
ing,andfrombetween theskidshoesand sidepanelsofthe housing.
4.
Withmounting holestowardthebackd theunit,slidethenewshave
plateintoposition andsecurewithfasteners removed previously.
LUBRICATION
Auger Shaft
At leastoncea season,one at a time, removeall four shearpinsfrom
the auger shaft. Spraylubricantinsidethe hubof eachaugerspiral
assemblyandaround thespacerson the augershaft. See Fig. 23.
Greasefittings can alsobe foundat each end of the augershaft.
Lubricate with a greasegun oncea season.See Figure23.

Drive and Shifting
Mechanism
With thesnowthrowertippedforward(be certainto runthe fueltankdry
beforetippingthe unitforward),removetheframecoverunderneath the
snowthrowerby removing theself-tapping screws.
At leastoncea seasonor afterevery25 hoursofoperation,lubricate all
chains,sprockets, g ears,bearings, s hafts,andthe shiftingmechanism.
Useengineoil or a spraylubricant.Referto Fig.24.
Note: Do not lubricatefrictionwheelrubberor aluminumdriveplate.
Doingso will not allowthe snowthrowerto driveproperly.
The gear (hex)shaftshouldbe lubricatedat leastonce a seasonor
after everytwenty-five(25) hoursof operation.

Carefullypivotthe snowthrowerup and forwardso that it restson
the auger housing.
NOTE: Beforetippingthe uniton the fronthousing,run the fuel tank
emptyso fuel doesnot leakout of the fuelcap.
2.
Remove theframecoverfromtheunderside of thesnowthrowerby
removing theself-tapping s crewswhichsecureit. Referto Figure 24.
