    PREPARATION FOR USE Unpacking and Set Up • This carton contains the main unit, two speakers, and a remote control handset. Carefully remove all the components from the carton and remove all packing materials form the components. Make sure nothing is accidentally discarded with the packing materials.

    Placement Of The System The system should be placed on a stable, level surface such as a table, shelf, or stand, convenient to a 120V 60Hz AC outlet, out of direct sunlight, and away from sources of excess heat, dust, moisture, or vibration. The speakers may be separated from the main as far the wires allow for maximum stereo separation, or they may be placed to the immediate left and right of the main unit.

    Power Source This system is designed to operate on 120VAC 60Hz house current only. Connecting this system to any other power source may cause damage to the system and such damage is not covered by your warranty. Note: The system has polarized AC plug with one wide blade and one narrow blade.

    Remote Control Battery The remote control requires one “button-type” 3-volt Lithium battery, included. To extend the life of the original battery we have inserted a small clear plastic spacer tab between the Lithium battery and the battery terminal. You must remove this battery spacer tab before you can use the remote control.

    OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS • Make sure that you have fully extended the FM antenna wire. • Make sure that you have removed the battery spacer from the remote control handset. • Make sure that the system is connected to an AC outlet that is always “live”.

    MUTE Button Press the MUTE button on the front panel or the remote control to shut off the speakers temporarily, for example, to answer the telephone. The sound stops and the MUTE indicator appears in the display. Press the MUTE button again to cancel the mute function and restore the sound. The MUTE indicator disappears.

    Listening To The Radio 1.) Press the STANDBY button to turn the unit ‘ On’ . If necessary, press the FUNCTION button to select the Tuner mode. The main display turns ‘ On’ . and shows FM 87.5 MHz. 2.) Press the STOP/BAND button to switch between FM and AM bands if necessary.

    Hints For Better Reception The FM lead wire antenna on the back panel should be extended to its full length. You may also have to vary the direction of this antenna until you find the position that provides the best reception. The AM bar antenna is inside the cabinet of the main unit.

    Pre-setting Stations In The Tuner Memory This system includes a 20 station preset memory. You can store up to 10 FM stations and 10 AM stations in the tuner memory for immediate recall. The procedure for storing stations in memory is as follows: 1.) Follow step 3 under Listening To The Radio on page 16 to select the first station you wish to memorize.

    Auto Preset Function This model includes an Auto-Preset feature which you can use to automatically enter 10 strong FM and AM stations in the tuner preset memory. Note: This feature is useful if you live in a rural area with a limited number of stations.

    Playing Compact Discs Note: Although this portable CD player can read CD-R and CD-RW discs, in addition to normal CDs, however the playability of CD-R/RW discs may be affected by the type of software that was used to create the discs, as well as the quality and condition of the blank media you are using.

    SKIP/Search ( ) Controls • During playback press the back to higher or lower numbered tracks. Playback will start at the beginning of the selected track. • To search within a track for a specific musical passage depress and hold buttons.

    REPEAT Playback You can program the player to continuously repeat a single track or the entire disc. The Repeat mode can be selected while the disc is playing or while the disc is stopped. Single Track Repeat Select the track to be repeated and then press the PLAY MODE/MEMO UP button once.

    Programmed Playback You can program up to 20 tracks on a disc to playback in any desired order. You may also program a specific track to play several times within the same program. Note: The player cannot be programmed while a disc is playing. If a disc is playing press the STOP/BAND button to stop playback before you begin the programming steps below.

    ALARM Function You can use the alarm function to wake you to the Tuner, or your favorite CD. To adjust the Wake Up time: 1.) Press the DISPLAY button until ALARM indicator is flashing on the display. 2.) Press the PROG(PROGRAM)/MEMO. button Within 3 seconds. The Hour digits will begin flashing.
  • Page 29 Wake To Tuner Tune to the desired radio station and adjust the volume to the level you want to hear in the morning when the alarm comes on. Press the STANDBY button to shut the system ‘ Off’ . At the selected wake up time the radio will turn ‘ On’ . The ALARM indicator flashes in the display.

    SLEEP Timer This system includes a programmable Sleep Timer that allows you to fall asleep to between 10 and 90 minutes of music and then shuts the power ‘ Off’ automatically. To operate the sleep timer 1.) Turn the system ‘ On’ and operate either the Tuner or CD function as usual. 2.) Adjust the VOLUME control to the desired level.

    Auxiliary Operation To listen to an auxiliary audio source connected to the AUX R/L jacks on the back panel of this unit (refer to page 8). Press the FUNCTION button to select the Aux function. The AUX indicator appears in the display. Operate the external device as you would normally.

    CARE AND MAINTENANCE Compact Disc Care • To remove a disc from its storage case, press down on the center of the case and lift the disc out, holding it carefully by the edges. • Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the disc’ s recorded surface with a soft cloth.Unlike conventional records, compact discs have no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris, so gently wiping with a soft cloth should remove most particles.
