    Attaching the Front Panel 1. First, insert the right side of the front panel into the main unit. Align the 2 small holes on the front panel with the 2 projections on the main unit. 2. Push the left side of the front panel until it locks firmly into the main unit.

    Initial System Start-Up Immediately after installing or applying power to the unit, it should be initial- ized. To do this, first, remove the detachable front panel. Behind the front panel, to the right of the connector, there is a small hole. Using a pencil or other pointed object, press the red reset button mounted behind this hole to complete the initialization procedure.

    Turning Power On and Off Press the PWR (Power) button to turn on the unit. Note: The unit can be turned on by pressing any other button except the eject c button. The volume level gradually increases to the previous level you were listening to before the unit was turned off.

    Subwoofer On and Off Press and hold the Eject button for at least 3 seconds. With each press, subwoofer is toggled On or Off. Notes: Initial mode is "SUBW OFF." Set to "SUBW OFF" unless the subwoofer is used. When the subwoofer is turned on, the subwoofer output level can be adjusted.

    Dimmer Control With the head lights of the vehicle ON, setting the illumination control of the vehicle to ON decreases the illumination brightiness of the unit. If the illumination is too bright during the night, set the DIM (Dimmer) to AUTO. Press and hold the INTLZ button for more than 3 seconds.

    Audio Mute Function Activating this function will instantly lower the volume level by 20 dB. Press the MUTE button to activate the MUTE mode. The audio level will decrease by about 20 dB. Pressing the MUTE button again will bring the audio back to its previous level.

    Selecting BBE Mode The BBE (Barcus Berry Electronics) processor installed in this unit is de- signed to correct the phase distortion inherent in most loudspeaker designs. Ensuring the phase integrity of the signal driving the speakers improves the accurate reproduction of the sound. Press and hold the MODE (Audio Control) knob for at least 2 seconds to turn on the BBE mode.

    Turning Mute Mode On/Off With a cellular phone or navigation system connected, audio will be inter- rupted whenever a call is received. This function can be manually turned ON or OFF from the head unit by following procedure below. Press and hold the INTLZ button for at least 3 seconds.

    Manual Storing of Station Presets Select the radio band and tune in a desired radio station you wish to store in the preset memory. Press and hold any one of the preset buttons (1 through 6) for at least 2 seconds until the station frequency on the display blinks.

    Automatic Memory of Station Presets Press the SOURCE button to select the radio mode. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Press and hold the A.ME button for at least 2 seconds. The frequency on the display continues to change while the automatic memory is in progress.

Press the station preset button that has your desired radio station in memory. The display shows the band, preset number with a triangle and frequency of the station selected.

    Auto Station Search While Traveling This function will automatically search for up to 12 stations receivable in the region you are in and store them in temporary memory. Use this function when you are traveling in a region away from home. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed.

    The RDS (Radio Data System) is a radio information system using the 57 kHz subcarrier of regular FM broadcast. The RDS allows you to receive a variety of information such as traffic information, station names, and to automatically re- tune to a stronger transmitter that is broadcasting the same programme.

    Recalling Preset RDS Stations Press the AF button to activate the RDS mode. The display shows "AF" when the RDS mode is activated. If the preset station's signal is weak, the unit automatically searches and tunes to a stronger station in the AF (Alternative Frequencies) list.

When a traffic information broadcast starts, the unit automatically mutes the CD player or the regular FM broadcast.

    Priority PTY (Programme Type) This function allows presetting of a programme type such as music category, news, etc. You can listen to a pro- gramme in the preset programme type as the unit automatically gives priority to the preset programme type when it begins broadcasting, and interrupts the pro- gramme you are currently listening.

    Inserting/Ejecting Disc Insert a CD half way into the slot with the label side facing up. The player automati- cally draws the disc into the disc compart- ment. The Disc indicator in the display appears to show that a disc is loaded. Note: Three-inch (8cm) CD's cannot be used.

    Titling Discs Press the TITLE button to display the disc title. (Refer to page 59). Press and hold the TITLE button for at least 3 seconds. The first digit will blink. Rotate the MODE (Audio Control) knob to select the desired letter/numeral/symbol available for naming.

    Controlling CD Shuttle (Optional) An optional 6-disc or 12-disc CD Shuttle may be connected to the CDA-7944R/CDA-7842R if it is Ai-NET compatible. With a CD Shuttle connected to the Ai-NET input of the CDA-7944R/CDA- 7842R, the CD Shuttle will be controllable from the CDA-7944R/CDA-7842R.
