Instructions for the HP SureStore VA7100
Deskside Assembly Conversion Kit
NOTE: Install the HP SureStore Virtual Array 7100 into the Deskside Assembly before installing the
disk drives and power modules, cabling it up, connecting the array to power, and connecting to the host.
For more information, see the Quick Start Guide (customer order part no. A6183-90901).
NOTE: If you are converting a field-rackable unit that is already racked, please see the Quick Start Guide.
(To uninstall, reverse the rack installation instructions given in the Quick Start Guide.)

Check the following conversion kit contents
(Figure 1). If any parts are missing, call your
nearest HP sales office.

Follow the instructions provided in the Quick Start
Guide to unpack and disassemble the array.
Be sure to remove the drives and the power modules from the array chassis before installing
WARNING!
the array chassis in the deskside assembly. D
To avoid damage to the modules and possible injury to the persons installing the deskside assembly,
the array chassis must be empty of everything except the controllers before converting to a deskside
configuration.

  • Page 2 Unpack the deskside assembly and remove the packing material. Base NOTE: The inside of the cover comes with a structural foam lining. It is part of the cover and is not to be removed. Remove the base and end cap from the deskside assembly.
  • Page 3 NOTE: Before proceeding, notice that there are two locating pins inside the bottom of the cover. See locating pins in Figure 4. With the power button down, lower the array chassis into the cover. Be sure that the rear of the array chassis is flush with the rear side of the cover, then slide it down and over the two locating pins (Figure 4).
