Sample FibreChannel configuration
The following is an example FibreChannel configuration. This uses four different servers in the cluster,
more as an example rather than it being a configuration that is one that a customer would generally
implement. Up to 8 nodes are supported in a FibreChannel configuration. The quorum server is also
shown. The process used to generate this example was similar to that used for the SCSI example, using on
the Web configuration tool. Various options have been chosen for internal storage in the servers. This can
be configured differently by the customer.
The key items that need to be in the servers are the correct number and type of LAN connections and the
FibreChannel HBAs. Various supported FibreChannel HBAs are used in this example. Note that the
FibreChannel HBAs are not available directly from HP. The customer must order these from the reseller.
This example shows only the Virtual Array 7100 for shared storage and shows only one. Multiple
VA7100s can be attached to the FibreChannel switches. The switch shown is the HP Brocade 2400, which
is available from HP. This switch has 8 ports. The Virtual Array 7100 that is listed below includes the
base enclosure with dual power supplies, two controllers, each with 512 MB mirrored cache, 2 optical
GBICs, and HP Surestore Command View SDM Software. Other versions of the VA7100 are available.

The rack components were also selected using the online web configuration tool as guideline. HP IA-32
Server Rack Assistant was also used because of its ability to detail the power calculation. These tools are

This rack was designed to use 240V since the LXr8500 cannot run from 110V. Except for the LT6000r,
the two LP2000r's and the FC switches, all devices with two power cords plug into both E7672A (one
power cord into each). The LT6000 has a power cord going to each as well with the last power cord going
to the E7671A. The switches and the LP2000r's all have a power cord going into the E7671A. The second
power cord from one FC switch and one LP2000r goes to one E7672A while the second power cord from
the other switch and the other LP2000r goes to the other E7672A. All devices with a single power cord get
connected to the E7671A. As was mentioned in the power section, to be resilient to a power circuit failure,
all of the PDUs must be connected to different power circuits.
The localization options changed based on country. The Web Configurator will indicate the appropriate
option (ABA is the US-English option). The power-cord will likely change based on country and the
details of power connections in your location.
