the refrigerator compartment.

With a Replacement Indicator Light
LCD Models: A pop-up message will appear on the LCD screen to
remind you to replace the water filter. You can check the status of the
water filter manually.
Access By: Home > Options > Dispenser Options > Reset Water Filter
Non-LCD Models: There is a replacement indicator light for the water
filter cartridge on the dispenser. This light will turn orange to tell you
that you need to replace the filter soon.
The filter cartridge should be replaced every six months, when the
replacement indicator light turns red, or if the flow of water to the

When to Replace the Filter on Models
Without a Replacement Indicator Light
The filter cartridge should be replaced every six months or earlier if
the flow of water to the dispenser or icemaker decreases.

Removing the Filter Cartridge

If you are replacing the cartridge, first remove the old one by slowly

rotate the cartridge to the right (clockwise) until it stops. The
cartridge will rotate about a 1/4 turn. When installed correctly,

CAUTION: If air has been trapped in the system, the filter cartridge
!
may be ejected as it is removed. Use caution when removing.
CAUTION: To reduce the risk associated with property damage
due to water leakage:
• Read and follow Use Instructions before installation and use of
this system.
• Installation and use MUST comply with all state and local
plumbing codes.
• Protect from freezing, remove filter cartridge when temperatures
are expected to drop below 33° F (1° C).
• Do not install systems in areas where ambient temperatures may
go above 110° F or below 40° F.
• Do not install on hot water supply lines. The maximum operating
water temperature of this filter system is 100°F (37.8°C).
• Do not install if water pressure exceeds 120 psi. If your water
pressure exceeds 80 psi (552 kPa), you must install a pressure
limiting valve. Contact a plumbing professional if you are uncertain
how to check your water pressure.
• Do not install where water hammer conditions may occur. If water
hammer conditions exist you must install a water hammer arrester.
Contact a plumbing professional if you are uncertain how to check
for this condition.
• Where a backflow prevention device is installed on a water system,
a device for controlling pressure due to thermal expansion must be
installed.
• The disposable filter cartridge MUST be replaced every 6 months, at the
rated capacity or sooner if a noticeable reduction in flow rate occurs.
Models with a Dispenser
Run water from the dispenser for 1-1/2 gallons (approximately three
minutes) to clear the system and prevent sputtering.
NOTE: A newly installed water filter cartridge may cause water
to spurt from the dispenser.

Filter Bypass Plug

To reduce the risk of property damage due to water leakage, you
MUST use the filter bypass plug when a replacement filter cartridge
is not available. The dispenser and icemaker will not operate without
the filter or filter bypass plug.
