10. Proceed with the installation: Choose the location for the system files and check the disk.
11. Remove the CD and the floppy disk, and allow the system to reboot.
12. Replace the CD and proceed through setup. (HP testers created a "typical" configuration.)
13. At the network setup screen, select Do not connect this computer to a network.
14. When prompted, remove the CD and reboot.
15. Insert the SP 6a CD, and install the Service Pack.
16. Allow the system to reboot.
17. Install IE 5 from the SP 6a CD.
18. Reboot.
19. Install the graphics drivers from the SoftPaq as follows:
Matrox – SP 23814
a.
Run the SoftPaq.
b.
Follow the installation process.
c.
Reboot.
NVIDIA – SP 23196
a.
Run the SoftPaq to extract the package.
b.
Follow the installation process.
c.
Choose the correct device.
d.
Reboot.
20. Modify the display settings as appropriate for your system.
21. Install the audio driver (SP 23194) as follows:
a.
Run the SoftPaq.
b.
Reboot.
22. Install networking as follows:
a.
Unpack the NIC driver (SP 25608).
b.
Open the Network icon in the Control Panel to begin the install process.
c.
Select Wired to Network.
d.
Choose Select from List.
e.
Select Have Disk.
f.
Enter the path to the directory containing the unpacked NIC driver.
g.
Proceed with the network installation according to your requirements.
h.
Insert the NT OS disk and direct the networking setup wizard to it.
i.
Configure each NIC in the system and start the network.
j.
Remove the NT OS disk and reboot.
Note: HP testers encountered a "Service Failure" message at startup and fixed it by selecting "Product
Updates," and installing the "Security Update, July 26, 2001" package found at
windowsupdate.microsoft.com. After installing this package, the system testers rebooted the system to
complete the installation. HP testers were also able to eliminate the message by re-installing Service Pack
6a after configuring the network.
