3. Check the power supplies. The following settings indicate that the
power switch is on and the power supply is in a "power on" delay mode:
G
Top LED begins flashing (green). If the top power supply LED does
not begin flashing (the server will not power on), refer to the
"System Interlocks" section later in the chapter.
G
Bottom LED ON (solid green).
4. When the top LED turns solid green, listen for the fans to start. Watch
for the following:
G
The hard drive LEDs should blink. If the LEDs do not light, power
down the server and check the cable connection to the hard drive
cages. Also, check connections between the hard drive and its drive
cage.
G
The green LEDs on the external fans should be on. If the LEDs do
not light, there is no power to the fans. Ensure that the fan cables are
properly installed at the fans, fan boards, processor board, and I/O
board.
If you have an IMD, check the following. If you have a monitor, check for the
steps listing monitor displays.
5. Check the IMD for messages about the:
G
Server name
G
LCD firmware
G
System initialization
G
PCI auto configuration
G
Processors
6. Check the IMD video message. If there is a monitor connected, you
should see the Compaq initialization screen.
7. Check for the IMD memory test message. The monitor shows the
memory count and the memory initialization.
8. Observe the memory count displayed.
9. Check for the IMD BIOS message. The monitor shows the number of
processors, their speed, and their cache size.
10. Check the IMD for messages about:
G
Drive arrays
G
Diskette drive
