Corolla's 132-hp 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, standard on Corolla grade, LE, XLE and S, achieves a remarkable balance of performance and efficiency.
The doHC 16-valve engine uses dual vvT-i. The engine block and cylinder head are made from lightweight aluminum alloy. Saving weight saves fuel.
With an available automatic transmission in Corolla LE and XLE, these models can get an EPA-estimated 27 city/35 highway mpg rating.

SuPER-CooLING SYSTEM
The aluminum-alloy engine of the 2010 Corolla uses lightweight,
high-compression pistons kept cool by a "water jacket spacer"
that surrounds the cylinder walls. It's a design that also helps
make the engine block lighter and more compact.
