How to Cable Your SMC7301TA The illustration shows the connections between the back of SMC7301TA and necessary devices. Follow these steps to complete hardware installation for SMC7301TA: 1. Connect SMC7301TA from WAN port to a ADSL/cable modem, or attach the ISDN line to the ISDN connector (S/T interface). 2.

Conguring all the PCs on your LAN If TCP/IP is installed on a Windows 95/98 PC that surfs the Internet or congures the SMC7301TA, follow the instructions below. For other operating Systems (Macintosh, Sun, etc.), follow the manufacturer’s instructions. a. Install a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet network card in the PC. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Log On to SMC7301TA Step 1: Open your Internet browser on one of the PC congured previously. Step 2: Use your browser’s Open command to enter the following URL:http://192.168.2.1 Step 3: The default password (which is “password”) is already entered for you. Click “Log On!” to log on. You may use the System Tools menu to change the password later.

Basic Internet Access Conguration via WAN Step 1: When you logon, select Customize User Interface in the SYSTEM TOOLS Menu. Accept the Basic Internet Access selection and click Next. The following window will be displayed, and select “ I use Internet access over WAN “. Click Next. Step 2: Click WAN in the CONFIGURATION Menu.

Step 4: If you choose via DHCP for the selection of Obtain IP Address Automatically. The following screen will be displayed. Enter the following information and then Click Apply. Prole Name: the name that you will use to identify this Internet access prole.

(Optional) Service Name: Enter the Service Name provided by your ISP if it is required. (Optional) Access Concentrator Name: Enter the Access Concentrator Name provided by your ISP if it is required. Idle Timeout(0-3600 seconds): The default value of the idle timeout is 120 seconds.

Prole Name: The name that you will use to identify this Internet accesses prole. Obtain IP Addresses Automatically: Obtain the IP address from ISP using PPTP connection to the local cable modem or ADSL modem. Some DSL-based ISPs use cable modem/ADSL modem as PPTP server to establish communications with an end-user.

Basic Internet Access Conguration via ISDN Step 1: When you logon, select Customize User Interface in the SYSTEM TOOLS Menu. Accept the Basic Internet Access selection and click Next. The conguration window will be displayed, Step 2: Select I use Internet Access over ISDN and then click Next.

Note: When you click Apply and Test, SMC7301TA attempts to place a call to your Internet Service Provider. Watch the Message window for any messages. If the test is successful, your users will be ready to access the Internet. If not, SMC7301TA will try to give you enough information to let you know why the connection is not successful.
