Hardware Setup

Hardware setup problems usually surface when reading or writ-
ing Call List Data to the radio.
To solve the problem:
1. Make sure that the PC and the programming cable you are
using meet the specifications on pages 3 and 7 respectively.
2.
Check for loose hardware connections. Make sure that the
programming cable is securely connected to the portable.
3.
Examine the metal contacts on the portable and the pro-
gramming cable for dust or grime. If necessary, clean the con-
tacts with alcohol and let dry.
4.
Choose Configuration Setup from the View menu. Make
sure the COM port that the programming cable is connected
to is the same as the one specified in the Serial Port field.
5.
Access the "Troubleshooting" section in the online help. It
contains a comprehensive list of topics to help you solve
computer-to-portable communication problems. Select the
link in the section that best describes the problem you are
experiencing. The help topic will provide step-by-step
instructions on the troubleshooting procedure.
You can print any help topic, including troubleshooting

topics, from the Help window by choosing Print Topic from the
File menu in the Help window.
6.
Attempt the Read or Write procedure again. If the problem
persists, the data file may be corrupted. If a previously saved
data file is available, try and write this file to the portable. If a
file is not available, retrieve data from another portable (of
the same model) if possible and write the new data file to the
unit.

Do not, under any circumstances, disconnect
the programming cable from the portable
while programming the unit, or power off the
PC while the call list data file is in memory. This
