Compression and treble boost Compression (settings 1 and 3) Deterioration of the ability to hear quiet sounds as well as loud ones is a typical symptom of old age. Compression compensates for these volume differences by boosting the volume of quiet sounds and reducing the volume of loud sounds if necessary.
