General notes
Applies to vehicles: with tire pressure monito ring system
Each t ire, incl uding the spare (if provi ded),
should be checked month ly w hen cold and in-
flated to the inflation pressure recommended
by the vehicle manufacture r on the vehicle
placard or tire infla t ion pressure label. (If your
veh icle has t ires of a diff erent size than the
size ind icated on t he vehicle placard or tir e in-
flation pressure label, you should deter mine
the proper tire inflation pressure for those
tires).
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has
been equipped with a tire pressure monitor ing
system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire
pressure tellta le when one or mo re of your
tires is significantly under-inflated . Accord ing-
ly, when the low tire pressure telltale illumi-
nates, you should stop and check your tires as
soon as possible, and inflate them to the
proper pressure. Driving on a signif icantly un-
der-inflated tire causes the tire to overheat
and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation al -
so reduces fuel efficiency and tire t read life,
and may affect the vehicl e's handling and
stopping abil ity.
Please note that the TPMS is not a subst itute
for proper t ire mainte nance, and it is the dr iv-
er's responsib ili ty to ma inta in cor rect t ire
pressure, even if under- infla t ion has not
reached the level to trigger ill umin ation of the
TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
Your veh icle has also been equ ipped with a
TPMS malfunc t ion indicat or to indica t e when
the system is not opera ti ng properly. The
TPMS mal f unction indicato r is combined wi t h
the low tire pressure tellta le. When the sys-
tem detects a malf unct ion, the te ll tale will
flash for approximately one minute and then
remain cont inuously illuminated. This se-
quence will continue upon subsequent vehicle
start-ups as long as the ma lf unction exists .

When the malfunction indicator is illum inat -
ed, the system may not be able to detect or
signal low tire pressure as intended . TPMS
malfunctions may occur for a var iety of rea-
sons, including the insta ll ation of replace-
ment or alternate tires or wheels on the vehi-
cle that prevent the TPMS from functioning
proper ly. Always check the TPMS malfunction
te lltale after rep lacing one or more t ires or
whee ls on you r vehicle t o ensure th at t he re-
placement or alterna t e t ires and wheels all ow
the TPMS to continue to f unct ion properly.

The tire pressure indicator in the instrument
cluster informs you if the tire pressure is too
Low or if there is a system malfunction.

Using the ABS sensors, the tire pressure mo ni-
toring system compares the tire tread circum-
ference and vib rat ion character istics of the in-
dividua l t ires. If the pressure decreases in one
or more t ires, this is indicated in th e inst ru-
ment cluster with a

The driver message in the
display goes out afte r 5 seconds. The driver
message can be displayed again by pressing

button. If on ly one t ire is affected,
the display w ill indicate its position.
The tire pressure monitoring system must be
reset via radio or MMI* each time the pres-
sures are adj usted (e.g. when switc hing be-
tween part ial and f ull load pressure) or after
changing or replacing a tire on your vehicle
