Fig. 33
Edge Guide Finger
The purpose of the edge guide finger H, Fig.
33 is to keep edge of shoe upper out of range of trim¬
mer knife J, thereby preventing knife from cutting the
edge of shoe upper while stitching and trimming are in
process.
Height Adjustment of Edge Guide Finger
The edge guide finger must be set at a height
that
will
permit the facing or lining to pass freely
under it to the knife while protecting the edge of the
shoe upper.
To adjust, loosen lock nut D, Fig. 33 and turn
thumb
screw E
up to raise guide finger or down to
lower guide finger.
Then tighten lock nut D.
Sidewise Adjustment of Edge Guide Finger
When correctly set, edge guide finger H should
be slightly to the left of knife J.
To
adjust,
loosen
screw
F
and
move edge
guide finger holder to correct position.
Then tighten
screw F.
Endwise Adjustment of Edge Guide Finger
The back of edge guide finger H should be set
as close as possible to knife J
without striking it.
To
adjust,
loosen
screw G
and
move edge
guide finger to correct position.
Then tighten screw G.
To Disengage Edge Guide Finger
Hang up the guide finger bar by pressing down
latch A.
To Raise Edge Guide with Knife
Move lever B to the right while knife is down.
To Raise Knife Without Raising Edge Guide
Move
lever B to the left.
To Regulate Tension on Trimmer Motor Belt
Tension on belt should be only heavy enough
to keep belt from slipping.
To adjust, remove arm back cover, loosen set
screw L, Fig. 34 and turn screw M until correct belt
tension is obtained.
Then tighten screw L.

To Change the Trimming Margin
Each throat plate has but one trimming margin.
This margin is measured from the center of the needle
hole to the cutting edge of the throat plate and may be
.015, .025, .035 or .050 inch from stitching line depend¬
ing on throat plate used.
To Set Knife
The knife descends obliquely and must be set
so that the cutting edge will press against and pass
just below cutting edge of throat plate to ensure a
shear cut.
To
set
sidewise
position
of
knife,
loosen
screw N, Fig. 35 and move knife holder as required.
Then tighten screw N.
To set height of knife, loosen two screws K,
Fig. 33 and raise or lower knife as required.
Then
tighten screws K.
