Recording a Rhythm Track
As you've already seen, the DOM-30 has tracks numbered 1 through
10 and
a RHYTHM
track numbered 15. The reason for this track
number
is simply
that
Yamaha
Clavinovas
and
other
MIDI
keyboards that are capable of handling rhythm data use MIDI
channel 15 to transmit and receive the rhythm data.
To record a rhythm track, simply select "REC TRACK RHYTHM"
at the record track selection stage and record in the normal way,
playing the DOM-30 percussion instruments via the corresponding
notes on your keyboard. The chart below shows which DOM-30
percussion instruments are assigned to which keys.

Note: These key assignments are fine if you háve a full-size keyboard
(i.e. 88 keys), but if you have a shorter 76-key keyboard you
should use the DOM-30 RHYTHM KEY NUMBER function to shift
the percussion
instruments
down
to a lower
range.
Refer to
"8-3: RHYTHM
KEY NUMBER"
on page 17 of the "8. MIDI
CONTROL"
section.
You
can record on the RHYTHM
track over and over again
without erasing previously recorded material, so you can easily
build up complex rhythm patterns. If previous material exists on
the rhythm track when you enter the record mode, the "OVER
DUBBING?" display will appear, asking you if you want to leave
the previous material as it is ("overdubbing" means to recorded
over previous material without erasing it). Press the > YES button
if you want to overdub, or the NO «4 button if you want to erase
the previous data.
