Synchronization Outputs
A square wave with the frequency and phase of the main signal output is
available at the front-panel Sync (synchronous) Out and rear-panel Fast
Sync connectors. The S
3
mc transition occurs at the signal zero-crossing or
when the signal crosses the dc offset voltage.
The output impedance of Sync Out is approximately 500 with a frequency
range matching the main signal output. When the Sync Out output is
terminated in a 500 resistive load, the output levels are:
Front Sync
Rear Fast Sync
Low level < +0.2V
Low level < +0.5V
High level > -i-1.2V
High level > +1.5V
Note
When the Sync output is connected to a high impedance load (> 1 MD), the
voltage levels are approximately twice the values listed. Improper termination of a
500 system may cause ringing at the signal positive and negative transitions. It
may be terminated into larger impedances, If necessary to drive TTL circuits to
60 MHz.
The rear-panel Fast S
5
mc output impedance is approximately 500 with a frequency range
extended to 60 MHz. The output levels for the Fast Sync connector may fall below the TTL
minimums when terminated into 500.
