ACCESSING THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT
WARNING: If the tractor has been
recently operated, engine surfaces
(including the radiator) will be HOT.
Allow the engine to cool before open-
ing the hood, or use extreme caution
to avoid burns when the hood is open.
To raise the hood, locate the latch release lever in
the hood notch at the front of the tractor. Lift and
hold the latch release lever while lifting the hood at
the hood notch. See Figure 31.

To remove the two side panels:
• Flip the tabs of the two quick release fasteners
up and turn to align with the slots in the side
panel. See Figure 32.
• Slip the top of the side panel over and off the
quick fastener tabs.
• Lift the side panel straight upward and off of the
retainer pins.
To reinstall the side panels:
• Align the two holes in the bottom of the side
panel with the retainer pins and slide the panel
onto the pins. See Figure 32
• Align the tabs of the quick release fasteners
with the slots of the side panel and slip the
panel over the tabs.

• Pull the quick fastener tabs slightly outward and
rotate 1/4 turn (perpendicular to slot) to lock the
side panels in place. Flip the fastener tabs
down.

Close the hood by pushing downward until captured
by the hood latch.
GENERAL BATTERY INFORMATION
WARNING:
• Battery posts, terminals and related accesso-
ries contain lead and lead compounds. Wash
hands after handling.
• Battery acid must be handled with great care,
as contact with it can burn and blister the skin.
It is advisable to wear protective clothing
(goggles, rubber gloves and apron) when
working with acid.
• Should battery acid accidentally splatter into
the eyes or onto the skin, rinse the affected
area immediately with clean cold water. If there
is any further discomfort, seek prompt medical
attention.
• If acid spills on clothing, first dilute it with clean
water, then neutralize with a solution of
ammonia/water or baking soda/water.
