OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Before installing your Woods Outdoor Timer with photocell, plan your lighting layout. It is important to keep your timer remote from:
    1. the lights being timed
    2. other night time light sources e.g.street lights.perch lights, and
    3. reflective surfaces such as aluminum siding
(Please refer to Item 2 under Other Important Notes.)

For this reason it is recommended that a polarized 2-conductor outdoor extension cord be used between the timer and the lights.
warning Note that 3-conductor grounded extension cords are not compatible with this timer as it is a 2-conductor polarized devise.
  2. If you are using an outdoor extension cord, plug it into your timer receptacle. If you are not using an outdoor extension cord, plug your outdoor. Christmas or other incandescent lights into your timer receptacle. The total cumulative wattage of all the lights must not exceed 1000 watts. 50-bulb-mini-light Christmas string is about 25 watts.
  3. Plug the timer into a 120 volts outlet. The display will show two parallel flashing bars and your lights will come on.
  4. Press the selector button repeatedly until the LED display shows the number of hours (1-9) that you wish the lights to stay on after dusk. If you wish your lights to stay on from Dusk-to Dawn, press the selector button until the display shows two parallel bars (not flashing). Each day, your lights will turn on at dusk and remain on for the duration of time you selected.
  5. When you set the time you want your lights to stay on:
If it is dark: Your lights will now stay on for the duration that you selected or until dawn, which ever occurs first. Each day thereafter the timer will automatically turn the lights on at dusk and will stay on for the period of time you selected, or at dawn, whichever occurs first.
If it is daylight: Your lights will remain on for a minute or two to let you ensure that your lights are working, and will then tum off. Then, at dusk, your lights will automatically turn on and will stay on for the duration that you selected, or at dawn, whichever occurs first. The sequence will repeat every night.

IMPORTANT NOTE

AFTER THE PHOTOCELL SENSES DARKNESS, YOUR TIMER WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY TWO (2) MINUTES BEFORE TURNING THE LIGHTS ON. THIS IS TO ENSURE THAT THE LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN ON IN REACTION TO TEMPORARY DARKNESS.

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. For best results, plug your timer directly into a wall receptacle that is at least 1 or 2 feet above the ground. This prevents snow accumulation on the timer.
  2. The photocell sensor, located directly above the selector button initales cycle. Shield the sensitive photocell sensor from all night time sources of light. The timer will shut your lights off if the sensor is influenced by the outdoor lights being timed, porch lights, street lights, etc. When this occurs, the timer will reset itself and when the light, source is removed, the selected run period will be repeated.
  3. If you are installing the timer in a non-lighted garage work shed, etc., it is neccesary that the sensor face a window. It is important that daylight is allowed to reset the timer for the next evening. Otherwise, your lights will not come back on.
  4. If a power failure occurs: After the power is restored, the timer will automatically default to the Dusk-to Dawn mode and the two parallel bars will flash as per operating instruction step 3.
